Description
This is not your redemption, but forgiveness.I drew this for my first-even livestream, which was a lot of fun, actually, and not as nervewracking as I thought it was going to be. You know how I am about themes of forgiveness, saintly women and men prostrate with shame. I would definitely not forgive Hans if I were Elsa, but I think she would be a better person than me. That's why she's the queen.

She may forgive him, but I think Hans has quite a bit of character growth to go through before he's repentant enough to ask for it. Beautiful pic!

I love that you put that line of "not redemption, but forgiveness", because that's a big thing. Personally, I don't really think Hans IS redeemable, but forgiveness is within the realm of ability! (THis is so gorgeous!)

I wish there were more themes of forgiveness in film and entertainment. Everything is about revenge or getting even these days.

This is wonderful both from the art point of view and for its concept. Elsa as a forgiving Holy Mother is unbearable. I love this picture

Is that a high collar I spy?? So gorgeous!
I love this theme a lot, and you do it so gorgeously. (and I also love that it's not a "Lets-redeem-Hans-because-poor-neglected-misunderstood-baby" "Lets-make-excuses-because-you-were-an-attractive-villain" thing. I hate those)
I love your piece with Jenny and Jude and I know there was one of the Prince of Darkness from Legend that was similar, you have a wonderful way of expressing all those emotions with seemingly simple compositions. Ah! So amazing.

I always think your fanart is beautiful, but sometimes you draw something that is just... inspiring. I think that is hard to do, and even harder to do with fanart (a genre generally repetitive). I LOVE your re-design of her dress here -- I wish this was the dress used in the movie! And I love the Halo around Hans' head -- I see it not as Hans' halo, but as the halo of Elsa's hand.

I went bonkers when this showed up on tumblr. Elsa is indeed that kind of woman, but I also believe that she is wise enough to not throw her pearls before swine. And she's not going to be alone in the same room as he is: This is not only not redemption, it is also not trust.
There is a very good one-shot fanfiction, "The Orphan ", that comes closest to being a convincing account of how Hans could redeem himself. The author is not intending to continue the story, but I think its a very good
At first glance, it looks as if Elsa is getting married, given the veil-like cape, but I noticed it didn't go over her face. I don't think that it would be practical to wear, since it would blow off quite easily the moment she walks forward, but I see it as something she would wear to church. Probably have to freeze it or pin it in place.
Now my issue is with Hans, more specifically how he's dressed: I don't think he'd have anything that fancy after his brothers got hold of him, much less after a decent time to come to genuine repentance. I think something more humble might have been appropriate, although I can see you using the party/military dress suit as an identifier. If you just reproduced his head, especially the side-burns, then I think people would still recognize him.
An incredible, thought provoking piece. I used to worry about being able to honestly forgive, but finally decided that I had a good enough connection with the Holy Spirit that He would tell me if the request was honest or not.

"*gentle reminder* that you do not forgive others too make them feel better. You forgive others to free yourself from the burden of anger and hate that you would otherwise carry with you."
The veil isn't meant to be practical, just a style choice. (If the whole piece were supposed to be practical, they wouldn't be standing in a blank void.) And I do think Hans's outfit is appropriately toned-down -- no military adornments, no fancy embroidery as on all his jackets, no royals blues or purples.
If you feel you need higher guidance in order to honestly forgive someone, well, that's what's right for you.

I need that guidance and because, honestly, I don't believe it can be truly done apart from God, by anyone. After all, the concept of forgiveness is biblical, but has been loaded down with humanistic, feel-good accretions that turn it into a tool to keep a con-game going, or the person who gets another to forgive gets brownie points for getting someone to kiss the fist that punched them.
And no, I don't believe forgiveness has healing power. GOD has healing power, and for some situations, forgiveness of someone who asks for it enables you to receive that healing power.

The concept of forgiveness is human, dude, not biblical. Man, I'm sorry for you that you think forgiveness is some kind of fucking con. I can't imagine what it's like to live in your head. I invite you to take your cranky preaching elsewhere.

I see what you're saying about Hans' outfit, but I think the piece is more striking BECAUSE he is dressed the way he is -- it is more moving to see a well-dressed, even royally dressed, man on his knees, humbling himself, than it is to see a poorly dressed man who is already humbled by his state. Besides, I doubt Hans' brothers cared as much as the movie would like us to believe.
