Description
One of the panels from my Labyrinth art meme -- you got cheated! ;DThis is my favorite scene in Labyrinth. (Me, and like, every other girl who watches it) It kills me how Jareth spends the movie up to then taunting and eluding her, making her quest pretty miserable. She's looking for him in the crowd of masqueraders and he brushes past her, laughs at her, teases her, and then suddenly there she is right in front of him, and she's all he wants. He's completely owned by her. It's that beautiful ballet of power. So romantic it makes my head swim.
I spent more time on this one than the other panels, and it's pretty, I think. The dark side of Sarah's face gave me hell, though. She's so impossibly beautiful that I can never get her right. But I think I did a pretty good job on Jareth.

this is going to sound a little silly, but I must say that you draw the best "bowie nose." his nose is very hard to draw IMHO and even looking at other artist's renditions, the nose is a point of struggle. total props to you for getting it right.
as to the picture itself- total *swoon* moment here! you captured their expressions perfectly and simply.
good stuff. bravo!

Bowie's beak is a trick. It has that totally particular curve to it. It's not pointy, you know? It's so hard to get it right, so I'm really flattered to hear you say I did.

TalentedChild In reply to lily-fox [2008-01-21 16:12:33 +0000 UTC]
No it's not pointed, but that's how most artist's render it. you've got the curve down, especially in this picture.
I just know how hard it is to draw [link] and I'm still not satisfied with it.
I am very tempted to request a fan-art drawing from you of one of my own fanfics, but I resist... those sorts of things should be offered.

I, unfortunately, do not take requests (as I always end up letting people down), but from the looks of it you can illustrate your stories beautifully on your own! The piece you linked to is really beautiful.

love the line work on sarah, particularly the hair ornament and face lines.
as for the dark part of her face, i wud say add a dark gray part for where the white of her should be- the lack of this looks pretty odd, considering it isnt deep shadow. you'd only need a tiny bit next to the nose, but it might make all the difference
and this is one of the better labyrinth art pieces, i think, so kudos to that

I think you're right. I have five dozen markers, and it's amazing how limited I still am. Often it's hard to darken up shadows because the light color underneath eats up the dark and makes it fade in. Does that make sense?

yea true. maybe if u bumped up the contrast, used more dramatic lights and the same or darker darks. something that is less similar in shade?

You have a lovely clean illustrative style. Your colours are crisp, you draw expression really well and seem to have the knack of capturing a likeness in only a few lines. I truly admire your talent.
Labyrinth is one of the reasons I first got into mask-making, and is an all-time favourite film of mine. I first saw it when it was released into the cinemas - I was 16. (That's giving my age away a bit, heh..)
Bowie is simply stunning.

Thank you! The masquerade scene inspired me for a long time, too. Not that I have any mask-making skills. My sister got the sculpting talent in the family.
Wear your age loud and proud, honey!

cant believe you can actualy do this with markers i wish i could

such a great captured moment. I think you know what I'm going to say about sarah-the eye, the eye! haha. it just bothers me slighly. but it's offset by the awesome movement of that dainty earring and all those amazing details.
Jareth, by the way, is also quite fabulous! :3

It's totally the eye. I fucked it up. Something about her mouth, too, is quirked, but I can't figure out what. Rabbity teeth, maybe. God! Why does she have to be so beautiful!

TaxiOnna In reply to lily-fox [2008-01-21 01:13:15 +0000 UTC]
I think the entire mouth is tilted downwards a little too much, and the angle of the teeth is a little strange... lol, I know, I hate not getting the pretty ones right! It's so hard!

This is so pretty I don't even have words... I just can't get over it.
Your Labyrinth art keeps blowing me away and I never seem to know what to SAY to it. Assuming I'm able to even pick my jaw up off the floor half the time. |D
This one, however, I had to stop and try for because you've captured this moment from the movie so well. And I totally understand the love for this whole part. The entire scene was always my dream wedding. I wanted to reproduce that masquerade for it. Sadly, I wasn't able to (you don't even WANT to know the prices you can get into for masquerade style outfits for bridesmaids and ushers. It was -crazy-!). I was lucky in one respect, however!
I managed to find a dress that was quite a bit like Sarah's. (3 I searched all over for it and granted, the sleeves weren't nearly as puffy as hers are, but it was the right cut and the right styling and just... it was perfect enough for me. I brought a picture from the film to the hairdresser and she did my hair like Sarah's as well. (Oh, the amount of hairspray she had to use on my straight as a board hair!)
My husband is nothing like Jareth, I'm afraid, though. He's the softspoken, sweet and kind of geeky type. But he knew exactly where I'd gotten my dress and hairstyle from (he asked me after the ceremony itself) so he won all his brownie points just for knowing that~ <3<3
And I'm babbling. Sorry! I just... this scene makes me even happier as I'm older because it reminds me of my wedding day. <3
And this picture brought that same feeling back all over again~ So thank you for that~ <3<3

That is really cool, and I'm glad you shared that story with me. Your husband sounds like a gem. Mine's the same way. Funny how we can want a certain kind of man so much, end up with almost the opposite, and never be happier than with what we've got. ^_^ Smooch him for me, willya?
I'm also really glad that I could get you to leave me a comment. I like to hear what you have to say, and I'm flattered that you're fond of it.
