Description
Mmm, I said I wouldn't, but I did.I sort of hated it when I was halfway through coloring, because I hadn't thought out where all the red would be, and it just looked junky and mismatched. But what with her vaguely green skin and his greenish cape, it actually turned out really nicely. I don't do enough stuff with black backgrounds or serious lighting, you know?
I started this because of a latent, predictable crush on Darkness, and Agape was just kind of a convenient stand-in for a love interest -- someone to totally cripple a dark heart, to make the Devil bend and break. But the more I draw her, the more I like her.
Agape wasn't perfect. She was fallible, highly suggestible, prone to her desires and the desires of others. From the books, we don't learn too much about who Agape was before being martyred, but her love and compassion were her obvious defining traits. She's always pictured as full of sorrow, which makes me think of the Buddha Avalokiteshvara, who, upon realizing that he couldn't alleviate the suffering of all the people in the world, was so overcome that he split into a thousand pieces, to better see the world. That's how the story goes, anyway. Compassion is beautiful but excruciating.
So from Darkness, she can gain a little selfishness, a little bit of the animal lust that can be so totally therapeutic when we need to escape our own heads. And Darkness, well... he's broken for her. But he doesn't mind.

What is it about the Devil that's so darned appealing? Mmm, of course, having Tim Curry's buttery-smooth voice doesn't hurt his cause any...

Oh, yes, that's a voice I could listen to all day long.
I've always been a bit of an exophiliac, but even normal people seem to be attracted to him. He just oozes sex appeal.
The half-men, half-goat creatures of mythology have always been associated with sexuality. Be it satyrs, fauns or Pan.
Satan himself represents temptation and seduction.
There's also the fact that he's big and strong and powerful and was completely obsessed with Lily.

Question: Did you know that Agape is one of the five loves, according western philosophy (Socrates, I think...)?
Just thought you might like that little tidbit of information.

Let me try this:
There are, according to somebody in Western philosophy which I believe to be Socrates, five different "types" of love. It goes like so:
1. Agape--Unconditional love
2. Erotic--Pretty much lusty boyfriend+girlfriend love
3. Brotherly--Love that binds people who are friends
4. Familial--Parent to child love, and vise versa (Not the Oedipus/Electra kind!)
5. Filial--Love for one's god.
Am I making any sense? I hope this helps!

I've always heard there were four kinds of love, according to the Greek language.
Agape for unconditional,
Philos for brotherly,
Storge for a love that steadily grows after time,
Eros for romantic love.
That's at least how I heard C.S. Lewis and my pastor explained it, but I haven't studied Socrates that much and I could be misinformed.

I studied philosophy this summer (much to my displeasure...) and you are correct in a manner of ways. The Greeks like Socrates, Aristotle, and other philosophers (like Des Carte) that learned from the above often disputed the different kinds of love. Traditionally, in originate Western philosophy, there are five, and as you have mentioned above, there are four in the Abrahamic Faiths (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.). C.S. Lewis actually devoted his beliefs in an entire book that throughly explains the four types of love thereof, and is quite a renowned "silent" philosopher. It really all depends on personal beliefs, to be truly honest. So, no fears! You hit the nail right on the head!
