You have to have a subscription, and I can tell from the tilde (~) next to your name that you don't have one. But I know someone who owns a club that makes stamps into icons for people without subscriptions. I'll see if she'll convert this one so you can use it. ^^

I believed in ghosts--moreover, I believe that a building in my yard (I live on a farm) is quite haunted. It's not so much pretty mists and voices in my head as the usual, spine-tingling, 'somebody's watching me' feeling I get. Even when my father installed bright lights along the ceiling, and even when our neighbor's cat kept a whole litter of adorable kittens in the building (granted, it was in a room off to the side close to an exit, where the feeling vanishes), I am still convinced.

Still, it's more frustrating than frightening, as no one will believe me. Worse, they'll humor me as if I was seven, saying things like 'of course there's a ghost in there, sweetie', and then sharing stories of their own instances and bonding paranormally... and then revealing the next day that they fixed the lighting problem in the room 'to help with that fear you have'. Yeah, sure. I'm convinced there's a ghost in an otherwise perfectly harmless-looking building because I'm secretly afraid of the dark. *Sarcasm*

Other than that, I haven't had much for ghost incidences. Psychic, on the other hand... that's another story.

You know, your story is eerily familiar. I've recently become terrofied of my basement. I've lived here for two years and have had no problems with the basement at all (I do my laundry down there every night). But just recently, I've had the disturbing feeling that I'm being watched. I have to turn on all the lights when I go down there to be sure I can see everything. My husband and mom think I'm being silly. My mom believes in ghosts, but she says there's only been one person who ever lived in our house before us, so how could we have a ghost? A harmful one anyway. The lady that lived here before us built this house and she passed away in a retirement home. Nothing tragic. But I still feel there's something down there. I even thought one of my cats was down there with me one night. I saw something run by and go behind the furnace. I walked over to the furnace going, "Come on kitty kitty. Let's go back upstai-" I stopped midsentence when I rounded the corner and realized there was no cat. I've never run up the stairs faster.

You know that can be caused by the stuff down in your basement. If you have anything from a thrift store or a dead persons stuff(cruddy example) ghosts can reside in their old items.

Creepy. On the other hand, the building I'm afraid of has never had anything more sentient in it than a bunch of cows and the still-alive-and-well owners that tended them... and even then, I doubt any of the cows even died. That (and the mockery of my family) was what convinced me to go into the building and try to face my fear a few months back. I made it about four minutes before the chills, the odd noises, and the oddest feeling of (and I feel cheesy just saying this) a dark sort of power in the area convinced me to rush back inside, praying like a Catholic preist preforming an exorcism the entire way.

Playing Devil's Advocate, though, have you ever considered the possibility that the thing you saw might've been a rat or mouse? We get those all the time back at my place.

Still, lots of places that don't have much for tragic pasts claim to be haunted, so I've never been much in believing ghosts stick to where they died. Partially because myths detail lots of stories of drifting ghosts and wanderers, and partially because I've always known whatever's in my yard feels nothing like a dead cow.

LilyFlare In reply to Shadow-Warrior-Nami [2009-04-24 06:12:39 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha! Well, maybe the cows have some unfinished milking to attend to. XP But I'm pretty sure it wasn't a rat or mouse in my basement. The shadow I saw was big. Like cat big, not cougar big. And I'm sure if I had mice, my cats would have found out by now and left their dead bodies laying around as gifts for me. So, I don't know. But actually, I'm not as scared of the basement anymore, and I have a theory why. See, we moved into this house and we had big remodeling plans for it. We torn off wallpaper, removed fixtures, etc. But somewhere along the line, we got sidetracked, projects went unfinished and the house was left in a sort of messy limbo. But in the last couple of weeks, my husband and I have really attempted to get back on top of things and fix this house up. I theorize that maybe the lady who built this house, didn't have a problem with us remodeling it, but the fact that we left it half finished ticked her off, hence the ominous feeling in the basement. But now that we've got back on track, she feels her house is in good hands once again and she's backing off.

Hmm... difficult to say, but if you feel that's what made the issue go away, then it likely was.

I'd recommend calling the Ghostbusters, though. Just to be sure.

Oh wow, those stories are amazing. So how old are you now and when did you first realize you could see ghosts? I've had some unexplainable things happen thoughout my life, but I think I block out any potential I might have 'cause I'm too scared of what I'll see.

uncopyrightedvinegar In reply to LilyFlare [2009-03-02 17:42:13 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. These things don't happen all the time but I really enjoy them when they do. I'm 18 now and I think as a child, I'm not sure if I was sensitive to it or not...
I moved to England when I was 5 and don't really remember anything before then...
I think I'm quite used to odd things happening now..
I wish they happened more frequently ^_^. I love paranormal things.

I understand, I tried to block myself out before too
but you can always unblock yourself. All you have to
remember is that nothing can hurt you - the only
way it will have an effect on you is if you let it.
I have seen/felt some horrible things but I've always
said to myself 'it's ok to be scared, they can't do anything'
and it's always, always been alright.
Hope you're well,

but I didn't see those my dad did. I can't remember what I saw, but I remember Always being cold in certain areas and you would have weird feelings like people are wacthing you.

Creepy. Actually, that makes me think of some ghost show I was watching. This team was getting ready to investigate a hotel (I think) and they were talking to the owner. The owner told them that one time, a maid was vacuuming a hallway when a white mist appeared in front of her. Thinking it was some dust, she tried to vacuum it up, but it didn't do anything. lol, make shift ghostbuster.

I think it was Ghost Hunters. It wasn't Paranormal State. I just watched like 4 episodes of that last night. XD OMG! Have you ever seen Ghosts Adventures? I was watching it, and they caught on tape, a brick lifting up and flying across a room. A frickin' brick! I nearly passed out when I saw it.
