WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN--I can't believe that this, of all things, is my 50th deviation. I fail so much, I can't even...
Okay, I don't know why on Earth I drew this. So it's Legal Luke from Professor Layton... And my fancharacter/London Life avatar, Lilian... And she's hugging him...because I have feels for this guy, okay! SO. MANY. FEELS.
(Argh, what am I? Some kind of stupid kid fangirl? I'm supposed to be past this at my age! BUT THE FEELS~ I CAN'T FIGHT THE FEELS~ ...I'm getting too old for this.)
So, yeah, I don't even know why I bothered uploading this thing. It's all lazy gradient shading. Plus I fail at the Layton games' art style. And Legal looks derpy and awkward. I am not good at drawing him. >_< I mean, this is an older picture, I just decided to color now, but I have this problem, whenever I draw Legal he tends to look bored/depressed or he's just staring blankly. I think I'm getting better at drawing him, but still.... >_<
So yeah, if you don't like Canon x OC, then just don't worry about this. I doubt this will be a regular thing outside of my comics. Just consider this as part of the Lilian's London Life series. (Or the Not-So-London Life series, in which case, this is just Lilian daydreaming or something)

OH GOD I THOUGHT OF ANOTHER ONE. It would have Layton (or Luke's father, for added hilarity) saying "Son, don't touch that cactus" and then Luke, you know, falls on the cactus, and then Layton (or Luke's father) goes "YOU'RE DEAD TO ME!"

This is absolutely adorable. <3 Legal Luke is ah-may-zing; I don't blame you for being such a fangirl.
Overall this picture looks pretty cool; there aren't any glaring mistakes with the lineart/anatomy that I can see, and you have such a gorgeous shading style. However I do think that you could have given Legal a different expression and had him react to the hug instead of just standing there. I did read the artist's comments and noticed how you pointed it out yourself; maybe you could search up some tutorials on expressions to help? Or referencing from the game, which can be useful at times.

I feel like there are so many things wrong with this...The game's art style is so different than my usual style. (But I love it~ I'm so used to anime styles, so it's fun to try something different~) The shading is just gradients, mostly. I like the way it looks, myself, but I sometimes worry it's too shiny.
LOL, I was worried his expression kind of looked like ._. I think the original sketch of this was the first time I drew Legal. When I scanned and colored it, there were a few things I fixed, but I left his blank stare as it was. XD He's just...like....angsting...or something. (What kind of mood is he in that he doesn't care about a cute girl hugging him?)

Ah, it's okay. I'm an absolute loon IRL (fangirling not included) and I'm supposed to be one of the 'mature' ones. Yeah. But yes! He is most definitely amazing! <3
Haha, yeah. I find that I quite enjoy drawing in the Layton style though because it's so simplistic, y'know?
Gradients. Gradients are awesome! I had an obsession with using them when I was younger! And no, never too shiny! ...until it blinds you.
(Maybe he's inhaled too many fumes from the clock shop or something... xD)

He's such an interesting character though~ I like analyzing his personality and stuff. (Him being cute is just a bonus~ XD)
Yeah, it's a cute style~ Sometimes I think if I hadn't played the games, I wouldn't have had as much of an interest in drawing in styles that are less "typical anime". It can be challenging for me to get that simple look correct, though, since my usual style is more "sparkly, shoujo-anime"~ (I've tried to draw some of the Layton characters in my own style, and the difference can be pretty funny.)
Gradient shading is really one of the only shading styles I can work with well, with the art software I use~ LOL, yeah, if it's so shiny that it's blinding, then it might be a problem. >w<
(Yeah, that could be it. XD Or he's so used to fangirls they don't even affect him anymore! XD)
