The Time-Turner“Great…” grumbled Lily, “I’m stuck staying in for lunch while the rest of the school swarms up to J.K. Rowling and get her autographs on their Harry Potter books!” Lily was one of J.K. Rowling’s biggest fans, owning a huge collection of Harry Potter books. Not only did she have all of the books J.K. Rowling ever wrote, but she also read them all… 10 times EACH! They were her best friends, greeting her everytime she opened their pages. This week, Lily’s middle school was the luckiest of all, for J.K. Rowling was the visiting author. Unfortunetly, the only time Lily could go get her books signed was during lunch. When Lily’s class had the author meeting at the beginning of the week, everyone pushed and shoved her out of the line. By the time it was finally her turn to get her books signed, the next class had rushed in and she sadly was forced to leave the room signature-less. For the rest of the week, she’d zoom to the room where J.K. Rowling scheduled her signings. Yet no matter how early she got there, the room was always jam-packed with fans screaming for her autograph. It was Friday and this was the last day she could get her favorite author to sign all her books. But with herself caged in the math room trying to solve algebra problems at lunch, she thought she had no chance whatsoever to get her goal done. She gazed out the classroom window. For a split second, Lily could have sworn she saw herself outside the door window, peeking into the room. She shook her head in puzzlement. By the time she looked out again, the “twin” was gone. “I must really be stressed out” she exclaimed.
Lily pushed back a tuff of messy brown hair in her face and continued with her work. She squinted through her thick glasses at the complicated problem and huffed in frustration. “Dividing fractions? At this rate I’ll never be able to meet J.K. again, let alone getting my books signed…” She finally finished the last problem and sprinted out of the classroom into the hallway. When she caught a glimpse of the enormous clock at the end of the hallway, she stopped dead in her tracks. It was 12:44, one minute before the bell rang. Her shoulders and head soon hung down in depression. She sighed once more and pulled out her hourglass necklace from under her camouflage jacket. Her grandma Hermione had given it to Lily when she was 6, saying it would bring luck to her “in time”. Yet disaster struck and her beloved grandma died mysteriously a few days after giving Lily her necklace “Well,” she said to herself “I’m 12 and still growing and I haven’t see any luck just yet. I kinda think it’s actually making me unlucky.” The tiny silver hourglass charm hung from the long golden chain, glinting under the light. She thought of the third Harry Potter book. Hermione Granger possessed a device called a time-turner, allowing her to be in two places at once so she could go to all of the classes. Lily wistfully stared at her hourglass. “If only this was a time-turner” she thought. She whispered out loud the word once more “Time-turner.” Soon after she felt her necklace heat up against her skin. She quickly pulled out her chain which seemed to have grown two sizes longer. Then she mouth hung open in astonishment. Attached at the end of the chain with its gold ring surrounding the silver rimmed hourglass, was the time-turner.
The grains of sand were fine pieces of crystal. Lily’s eyes grew as wide as plates and her head pounded. Her heart beat so loud she could hear it echo in the hallway. “I can’t believe it… this is really…” She stared at the wondrous item longer, not wishing to blink her eyes, thinking it would transform back into the mini-hourglass if she did. She finally closed her eyes. Then she slowly opened them. The time-turner was still there sitting in her hand. Her heart beat faster in excitement. “If this is the time-turner, then…” She saw many of her classmates walking around in the after-lunch traffic. She squeezed through the crowded hallway, slipped into the girls bathroom and tip-toed into a stall. Her right hand reached out and turned the little knob on the side of the ring, spinning the hourglass upside down. Five seconds later all the sand ran to the other half of the glass. “Ding” sounded the time-turner like a silver bell. The last thing Lily heard was the bell ringing for all students to get to class. Everything whirled around her in a fast blur. Then everything stopped abruptly. Lily dizzily unlocked the stall door and ran out of the bathroom. The hallway was silent and she was the only one standing there. She turned around to look at the clock. Its bright red numbers were flashing 11:45.

This was a really good story. I like how you connected it to the Harry Potter series. Will
