I suck at MS paint! This drawing is clean and tidy and looks like a Colt.

Perhaps what you don't like about it is that it looks cartoonish rather than realistic. For the latter, you'd need a good ref -- either a real gun (which shouldn't be a problem if you're American) or a good photo of one. You need to add in the highlights, shading and shadows. Light is what reveals form. Without it everything is just 2-D (or cartoonish and flat).

PS: I have seen people do amazing things with MS paint. Keep going with it until you can afford something more advanced. I'm not going to give up either.

That's really good for something made in MS Paint. I'm pretty good with the program, provided I'm drawing some kind of sword (I have a picture of my best ones in my gallery).
