Description This was a personal map, made because inspiration struck and to try out a more modern style I've wanted to use for a while.

So, Antillia is a phantom island – an island that doesn't exist and never has, but still was sighted by sailors and included on maps for a long time, in this case a couple of hundred years. This map is alternate history thingy, where Antillia was real. I found a section of the Atlantic ridge that looked a little like the descriptions of Antillia, and used that for the shape. Then I drew and painted the landscape on watercolor paper, and added the "mechanical" details using G.Projector, Illustrator and Photoshop.

This one is now available as a print from Society6!

So essentially an alt-history of the "alt-history" of Atlantis, where it mostly DIDN'T sink beneath the waves, and the mountains and hills became the Azores?

This is incredible. I admire your creativity in tying together the historical/mythical sources and contemporary geopolitics.

Others and I have used the Mid-Atlantic Ridge similarly as Atlantis

Yeah, it's conveniently placed, isn't it?

And it was conveniently above sea level Β a few million years ago.

Great! Four stars! About how large is it (north-south mileage, calculating the area would be a pain. Β )? With several cities over 100,000, seems like it would be a sizable isle.

Thanks! It's pretty big, yes. Not sure about miles, but you can get an idea about the size from the graticule.

Necro, but I transplanted this image on Google Earth and roughed the main island (microcontinent?) to over 700,000 sq km, almost 4x bigger than the UK and would be the 4th largest island in the world after Greenland, New Guinea, and Borneo. It also completely engulfs the Azores, which I'm not sure if intentional.

The Atlantic currents, and therefore Europe and maybe North America's climates, would certainly be altered by the presence of such a giant landmass, which itself would be climactically diverse due to latitudinal coverage. I can only imagine the native peoples and wildlife time experimented on here. For being right above the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, it'd also be super volcanically active, constantly growing, and may be as young as Iceland, depending on if it formed there or was left there by continental drift.

This is my favorite interpretation of the island. Don't think I didn't notice how it fits along our continental coastsΒ

I remember calculating an Atlantis sequel labd in that area would be around 1.35-1.52 million square kilometres- more than twice the size of Madagascar or even Borneo. So it'd be like the Azores on steroids? What kind of fauna and flora would exist on these islands?Β

That's a great map LingonB! Where did you learn to paint with watercolour? That's really awesome, different from PS, you don't have CTRL Z! Great Job!

Thank you! I did't learn it anywhere specific (and I still haven't learnt it, IMO!), I just enjoy it Yeah, you don't have Undo, but it's a lot more forgiving than oils or acrylics though.
