'Mothra' (1961)Happy Birthday to You!
We All Love you!
We Love you, Dear Mothra!
Happy Birthday to you!!!
Yup - 50 years ago, Mothra made her spectacular film debut. And even though this is a few months late, I still think its the thought that counts.
Mothra was the first of the Toho films that actually somehow supplanted Godzilla. Yup - Godzilla, a Dinosaur was upstaged by a Giant Moth. Mothra has gone on to be sometimes called 'Queen of the Monsters'. It actually makes her a good contrast to Godzilla, seeing as how she's usually used as a symbol for peace and goodness.
The origins of Mothra are hard to say cause I think they've been changed around a bit. But the common archetype shown in movies after this one is that Mothra is actually some kind of Goddess in a living form. My belief is that every time Mothra lays her egg, she reincarnates herself - therefore she can never truly die.
Well, we got a few More Mothra's to get to, so I hope you're still with me.

Mothra, the only Godzilla monster that had its own spin-off stuff.
