It kinda makes sence, since the Borealis is part of Aperture Science and Gordon has to go destroy it. It might not be such a bad idea.

Chell's just come out a place where the robots would never shut up, while Gordon might a appreciate someone who isn't always telling him to reload. Maybe companionable silence works for both of them.
Imagine them spending time together while, say, Alyx asks "What do those two talk about?"
