EDIT 6/9/17 - Total revamp! different profile pic from the others but I'm fairly happy with it! Might update the profile more later but whatever for now I just want this to be up and FINISHED!!!

General

Codename: Violet

Name: Violet Dyce

Nickname: Vi

Age: 37 (technically 1037, but the 1000 years part was spent trapped in a magical book where she didn’t age. But gargoyles also have a longer lifespan than humans so really she’s still technically a teen/young adult.)

Birthdate: November 12 (Scorpio)

Affiliation: Hero (Teen Titans)

Friends: Liz Turner, Laella Sinclaire, Lucy Taylor , Carmen Martínez, Brianna Walker, Aleta Ríos

Appearance

Species: Gargoyle

Place of Origin: Scottish Highlands

Height: 6’6” (about 7’4” including horns; horns curve back slightly)

Skin: violet-purple, leathery texture. Entire body turns to stone when seriously injured or when sleeping, major scars retain stony texture for a few days

Hair: dark brown, comes down to just below where the wings attach on her back

Eyes: green. The iris turns red and her eye starts to glow when she gets mad, and the entire eye glows red when extremely angry.

Weight: 175 pounds

Other: Skin has a leathery feel to it. Broad shoulders and muscled back support her huge wings, which have a whopping 28-foot wingspan when fully extended for gliding. She usually keeps them somewhat folded up, as they can obviously get in the way. Her tail is almost as long as her body and is used for balance, but is not prehensile. It does, however, give away her emotions – twitching when anxious, lashing when angered, tucked up when frightened, etc. Fairly light for her size due to the fact that her bones are actually hollow like a birds'! This allows her to actually maintain 'flight'. Her bones, however, are still pretty dense in comparison to a birds' and not that easy to break.

Powers/Abilities

All gargoyles, including Violet, have traits that they consider normal but are considered ‘powers’ in the eyes of humans. These include:

Wings – Violet can glide through the air using her wings. They’re extremely fragile, however, and so she needs to be mindful of them when fighting. They can fold up snugly against her back, although they do drag on the ground a bit with how big they are.

Strength – Violet is a lot stronger than the average human being. Part of that is due to a long history of training for battles with her clan, but it’s also from a need for gargoyles to scale trees buildings, and to support their massive wings. She can lift about 500 pounds fairly easily, and if she pushes herself she can manage half a ton (1000 pounds), but only very briefly.

Heightened senses:

Hearing: those big pointy ears aren’t just for show! She can hear subtle noises most humans can’t, pick up on things people mutter that they hope no one else can hear, and her ears constantly twitch as she picks up the sounds of mice scuffling down the alleyway, or the air conditioner two floors down, or the microwave beeping on the other side of the building. …She also hears some things that she wishes she could forget. They’re also somewhat emotive, which means if she's mad they pin down, sad they droop, or curious they perk up toward whatever's got her attention.

Her sense of smell is also considerably better than that of humans, and is almost but not quite as good as a dog’s. She can identify individuals walking into a room by their scent, and enjoys quiet little aromas like the smell of a lake or of chocolate. However this comes with a downside, as pungent smells like a landfill or heavy perfume make her want to choke.

Violet’s eyesight is pretty good too. She’s no hawk, but she’s able to pick up on subtle movements and expressions others might overlook or not notice. She’s also able to see really well at night.

Mild temperature resistance – the heat doesn’t really bother her until it’s well above one hundred degrees Fahrenheit. She’s also pretty tolerant with cold temperatures until it drops into the teens (in degrees Fahrenheit) and below. Even then it’s not that big of a deal, she just needs to put on warmer clothes and cover up more. She’s less prone to flying when it’s cold, however, because her wings are more sensitive than the rest of her body and they can possibly freeze entirely in really frigid weather.

Claws and teeth – her main weapons. Her teeth are designed to be able to rip chunks of meat off of prey, but gargoyles have an impressive bite force that allows her to crush through not only bone but also rocks. (The rocks are also required for digestion in general, and for being able to convert to her stone form.) Her claws are also pretty nasty. With enough patience, she can claw through steel walls and doors, though usually if its more than 6 inches thick she won’t even try because it’ll take hours. They’re also good for climbing and disemboweling prey. Her feet are also designed to be able to climb, whether she’s climbing a stone/brick building or a tree or even up a metal wall. Again, the claws can dig into the surface to help get her to a place high enough that she can jump and glide away.

Stone Form – Her entire body turns to stone – skin, blood, organs, everything – when she wants to sleep or heal. It’s a great cure-all, quickly healing any major lacerations or puncture wounds that would normally be life-threatening, though it doesn’t allow for regrowth of missing limbs. The only downside to this is that it leaves her terribly exposed – a person with a sledgehammer could smash her stone form to pieces, instantly killing her. She doesn’t automatically turn to stone when sleeping, and can often be found napping like a cat in sunny places, but stone sleep is much more refreshing and rejuvenating. She needs to stone-sleep at least two or three times a week or else she starts getting drowsy and even dizzy, no matter how many cat-naps she takes.

"Magic Resistance" - not real magic resistance, per say, but she's able to shrug off minor spells without any effects. A caster would need to put a lot of force/intent into an offensive spell or use a really powerful spell for Violet to feel any effects (see: the spell that got her to the 21st century in the first place, under her history).

Weaknesses

Again, stone sleep is a must but it leaves her extremely vulnerable. Luckily she usually sleeps at the tower but sometimes if her wounds are severe, she will automatically start turning to stone in the middle of battle, which is a stupid defense mechanism but she can’t really stop it, just try and wake up as soon as her body is healed enough to do so. (A/N: I do have an idea that as time goes on, Violet figures out how to turn just parts of her body that need healing to stone in dangerous situations, but it still leaves her terribly vulnerable.)

She relies on her claws and teeth, and to some extent her tail, as her primary weapons. The nice thing about her huge-ass wings is that they can fold up against her body easily, which is usually what she does when fighting, but there’s still that inherent risk of getting them scratched or banged up in a fight – or just getting physically hurt in general. Her wings have lots of small blood vessels running through them, meaning a minor cut on them could turn into a major problem if she doesn’t put a bit of pressure on it to stem the bleeding, and any major scarring could impede her flight.

She also can’t take off from the ground especially well. Again, she glides on air currents and while she can get a few flaps off her wings are so massive yet so delicate that it’s difficult to really fly. Fighting her in an open space with nothing for her to climb or jump on to then take off from is a good way of grounding her.

She’s pretty sensitive about the fact that her entire clan is dead and she’s stuck in the future, moreso at the start of her Titans tenure but it lingers throughout her life. She's also extremely overprotective of her new clan, to the point where she will also take stupid risks to keep them safe. (it's basically a battle between Liz Bri and Vi over who is most protective half the time) She also does not do well in tight spaces or cages, like at all, ever. It reminds her too much of being trapped in the spellbook.

Personality

Impulsive/instinctive – during fights Violet tends to rely on her instincts to guide her through. Anger is probably her greatest enemy though, because it brings out the more violent side of her instincts and makes her uncontrollable and unpredictable.

Protective – part of gargoyle instinct is to protect the clan and territory. Violet’s clan encompasses pretty much every single Titan and affiliate, even if she doesn’t interact with them often, and if someone’s hurt she goes into protective mode, fending off the danger until it goes away and then checking on whoever’s injured or providing defense while others help out. This also extends to when other Titans are emotionally not okay; she goes into a comforting protective mode, encouraging them to talk about what’s bothering them and offering moral support (and also offering to punch the offending person/object for them). This can be problematic if someone is being threatened though; normally Violet can think clearly and make a plan about saving random civilians, but when it’s a teammate who needs saving she gets frustrated because she needs to help but she doesn’t know how to help without further endangering the teammate and she just can’t think straight.

Curious – She’s really interested in the advances that have been made in technology and medicine, and is especially interested in life sciences. She’s also open to trying new things with her friends, and will ask people about things she doesn’t understand so that she can learn. She does sometimes stick her nose in where it doesn’t belong though (curiosity killed the gargoyle)

Loyal – she would never betray her team (or clan, in her eyes), and she always stands by them in battles and doesn’t cope well if someone she trusted betrays her.

Overall she’s pretty chill and not quick to anger, and while she’s reserved and distant at first once you get to know her and she starts to trust you she’ll open up more and enjoy hanging out doing pretty much whatever. She's extremely dedicated to her cause, but won't hesitate to kill an enemy threatening innocents, which can put her at odds with other Titans.

History

During a battle back in 1000AD Scotland, a sorcerer on the other side trapped Violet in a magic book, while the rest of the humans killed or smashed the other gargoyles and took over the village close to their home. The book was later used to trap the dragon Malchior. Distraught about losing her entire clan, Violet accepted her fate of being trapped forever, and tried in vain to get Malchior to shut up and accept it too.

Then, of course, over 1000 years later, Malchior tricked a sorceress into freeing him, and Violet was freed as well. The sorceress, Raven of the Teen Titans, asked if Violet wanted to join their team. Violet, still confused and lost, thanked her but then ran. She met a human named Laella, who helped her become acclimated with the future.

Later she was met a ghost named Liz, who wanted to use her powers to help people. Liz convinced Violet to join, and Laella tagged along with her archery skills – to keep an eye on Violet, she said, but really she wanted to try being a superhero too. So they became a team, and it was glorious.

Fun Facts:

-She really likes birds and bats, she thinks they’re super cute. She especially likes doves, mostly because of their symbolism of peace and love, but she also thinks Lucy’s doves are pretty adorable.

-She really likes meat, because it’s part of her natural diet. She can handle salads and sides of vegetables and stuff, but too much of it can make her sick. She’ll eat any meat though, whether it’s cooked from the store or it’s raw and she killed it herself. (Which, she tries not to do that, it’s a very messy process and she’s trying to be more “civilized”, but hey, she’s gotta eat and if that’s the only option…)

-She loves chocolate too, especially dark chocolate (the darker the better). It’s an addiction.

-She’s very feline in her mannerisms and vocalizations. She’ll purr when happy (it doesn’t sound like a housecat purr, it’s a bit louder and more rumbly), she’s hiss when startled, growl when frustrated or annoyed, snarl if someone surprises her or if she’s fighting, and she’ll even full on roar to try and scare enemies away (it’s super loud, like a tiger roar meets a rockslide). You can also watch her ears for certain emotional tells; flicked back means she’s not happy, drooped means sad/upset/frustrated, perked up means interested, twitching means she’s listening to something (or that she’s lying). Her tail tends to coil up when scared or nervous, it lashes when she’s upset or angry, and twitches a little when she’s happy or excited.

-Was once asked about her sexual and romantic preferences. Was quoted saying, “Humans are weird and gross so if you’re asking if I would mate with a human the answer is no, not now, not ever, no matter who it is.” In regards to her own species? “I don’t know and it doesn’t really matter now so fuck off.”

-She does swear occasionally and everyone is always surprised when she does.

-She gets really into biology, specifically microbiology, and spends free time studying it. Eventually she goes and takes classes at a local college and gets a degree.
