Description
Ink and watercolor, all done with a brush. I liked the line art well enough, and am trying to figure out how to apply color on top. This might be best viewed small...
I actually scanned this rather than my usual method of taking a picture of it, and I don't like all the extra wrinkles it introduced on the paper itself. It's kind of odd, as none of those waves actually show on the painting when I see it, but I guess the scanner bed picked those up.
[Edited: I mounted this on another sheet of Xuan paper and now it's all nice and flat.]
It was fun to just put in all the needles... mindless fun. *laughs*

I like those old pines 'sinuous like dragons'... they're so fun, too.

Will you be doing this to all of your ink paintings? This cleans up everything so nicely.

I want to, definitely! As it really does change the character of them. Especially the ones on single shuan, as it really makes the colors come out more boldly, and helps them not only lay flat, but look a lot better too.

Mmmm, pretty. I emjoy the looseness of the line and the things ink does all by itself with a little guidance... Mmm. Yes. Mmm.

*smiles* Yeah...
I have this horrible control freak nature that ink painting just completely by-passes. I *can't* control the medium, it's going to just do what it freaking well pleases, so...
I just have to flow with it, and I can't obsess about the placement of each line; and the flow, or the breath of the piece is a part of it.
I'm very glad that this piece pleases.

I'm the same way, but I had a blast when we did printmaking. It's very much happy accidents and whatever the ink decides to do. It was really fun playing with it on the metal plates.

Thank you, very much! I'm very glad you liked it, and if you click on the title for it now, I have a backed version of it up, as it seems so much cleaner...

*grins* Thanks!
It's interesting learning more and more about how individual the mediums are that people like working in, and how different they sometimes can be...

*grins* Would that do for the You Know What? If the watercolor forest I sent a pointer to you of doesn't work?

Yeah, I think this would work a lot better. Any chance you could do a deer at some point, to go with?

*laughs* You saw the two other deer I did... I'm not that good with anything alive that isn't planted into the dirt, honestly.
I might be able to do a stand of trees...

Haha! Good point! Hmmm, maybe a stand of trees that's considerably wider than tall? I want it to be able to fit... Oh! I could give you the dimensions of the space! *feels dumb for not doing that earlier*
It's a 9"x4.5" space with a 5"x3.5" space to the right, sides touching and bottoms even. (Those measurements go all the way to the edges.) Um, does that make sense?

Ah ha! Uhm... which space should the painting fit in? The 9x4.5? or the 5x3.5? Or both?

Ah, I explained badly - it's one space, so both. I guess it's more a 14x4.5 with a 5x1 chunk taken out of the upper right corner.

You mean, your scanner picked up the vertical lines on the background??? Wow. I was wondering why this rather Asian style drawing of pine tree with what seemed like a striped wallpaper background. *sorry*
When I scan pencil drawings I just have to correct it for 'fade' later. (But then, it picks up all the erased lines and dirt, etc. No, you can't win against scanners and cameras. They do their own thing.)

Yeah, those vertical shadows are from the scanner... bleh... (sighs)
And, yeah, I'm having problems with the bits from scanning a sketch, now, too... *laughs* But it's nice to be able to erase those specks when I actually get it into the software.

Oh that's really beautiful! I like it best larger.
yeah, scanners can do odd things to an image. graphite pencil is the worst. Things just disappear.

Thank you!! I'm very glad you liked it and thanks for the as well. I appreciate it very much.
Yeah... I've noticed that last with my pencil sketches. Huh. Thanks for pointing out the probable cause.
