Anyone remember this show? Beetlejuice was such a jerk. I suppose thats why kids loved him, though. For some reason, murky memories of this cartoon recently surfaced, so I had to do a little fanart tribute.Ink & photoshop CS
You may be interested in seeing the raw linework . Everything was drawn by hand except for the oval frame. Of course, I created a repeating pattern to fill in the background.
I would be remiss if I didnt include the theme song to the show.
Its good to be drawing again.

Lol, this piece has been stolen up the wazoo all over the internet. There's even fanart of it...I guess that's just how good this piece is- good enough and old enough to be mistaken as official art. XD

Beetlejuice was easy to love. He was a sweetie to Lydia and a jackass to everyone else, usually got away with it, and routinely begged the kids watching (us) for money because he detested the idea of getting a job.
Ah, we love ya, BJ. You wouldn't last a second on today's TV.

Sad, but true. Today's kids just wouldn't understand parts of our "ancient history." They're desensitized by living in an age where it's socially acceptable for kids to know about sex when they're 5 or so, and where shootouts, drug addicts, prostitutes, and all sorts of other crap roam the childrens media circuit freely. Now I'm not saying years gone by were any better, but at least we weren't being openly spoonfed this crud- parents had the mind to make choices. And yet, if they aired re-runs of this show on Cartoon Network like they used to (I think they should anyway, seeing as it's the cartoon's 20th anniversary this year), parents would protest and complain because its teaching their kids bad morals, and of course the main characters are nothing that should be emulated/looked up to, etc.
It's a topsy-turvy world we live in. I'm just glad I never grew up.

And let's not forget that Lydia was in fact an excellent role model. She was polite, kind, honest, hard-working, and a good student--and just so happened to hang around with a 600+ year old living corpse. She was the yin to Beetlejuice's yang and vice versa. As a result, the show actually worked in a few solid "moral of the stories" amongst the mayhem. The problem with today's shows is that they tend to pick either one extreme or the other...either the show is all "Lydia"s or filled with fart and slapstick humor.

Nice job. I loved this cartoon too when I was a kid. I went and looked for it on youtube because I could barely remmeber it. I kinda like Beetlejuice in the movie a bit better though- the world they made for him I dont quite understand.

Good lord, I miss this show. I watched the movie by Tim Burton recently and it made me miss the mornings spent sitting in front of the TV, munching on Cheerios and waiting for Beetlejuice to come on.
Great job, btw. Perfect coloring and the dull brown bg really makes them both stand out. I really like the bug in Beetlejuice's fingers!
