Description
This is a commission I have been working for some time for Prussian. I tried a different painting technique this time around using more texture. I also used googlesketchup (my new favorite resource) to quickly get the perspective on the pillar. The runes are from [link]Hope you like it!

This is really nice. Is this the actual size or did you make it larger?

Of course it is painted! It's painted all by hand (no over-painting either)! I used google sketchup to get the perspective on the 3D pillar and sconce. Then I traced the outlines and put in my OWN shading. No part of the 3D model is in what you see above. Creating my own reference is important to me. The figure is not traced and the lighting was made up. I ALWAYS draw my figures freehand to keep my skills sharp. The only reason I used skektchup on the pillar was to save time, not because I can't draw it. I know not everyone out there is legit, but you are looking at a professional who knows how to draw. There is no reason for me to over-paint a 3D model when I can do things all on my own. I just barely discovered the 3D program. All of my other work is done with no 3D ref if you want to see the rest of my gallery (including objects with no direct reference at all, like my dragon painting- [link] ). And I have no problems divulging how I do any project so if you are curious, just ask!

Oh I am addicted. I can't wait to finish up my current personal project- a borg looking chick with lots of intricate metal work in a cyborg chip. To have drawn it out by hand would have taken forever. I love the quick outlines sketchup gives.

This is amazing. I prefer this concept for casting to most anyway, so seeing a good depiction of it was a nice surprise.
