Description
18x24" 45x60cm acrylic on hardboardThe painting of the week. This one rather got away from me. My intention was to make a very abstract landscape, like the ones I do in my still life florals with the picture frame in them. The pictures in those picture frames are just colors that sort of imply a painting. I'd planed to do the whole painting like that. Some parts of this painting still resemble that intention. Others, not so much, or not at all. The first version was another "Garden Wall" scene, which I decided I didn't like, so I re-painted the lower half and ended up with another "The Cottage" painting instead. Creatively, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree with me, I guess.

lovely colors
maybe a bit of criticism - those light holes in the dark tree area are too much hard edged and rounded with the same size...

Probably right. Didn't actually notice that until you pointed it out. It's best to work the edges -- sky and tree at the same time -- wet on wet so the interface is soft. The holes were added later, and like you say, too round, too hard. May have to touch it up when I take it down from the wall. Thanks for pointing that out. And for every viewer's sake, I'll just add that I don't formally invite critiques simply because I don't want people spending a lot of time making suggestions when I'll likely just do what I want anyways. On the other hand, I certainly welcome everyone's opinion good and bad, who knows, I might take it to heart.

It was not meant to be a proper critique, just quick sharing of first thoughts... wrongly chosen words...sorry for that
Anyway, your work is very inspirational for me, especially because you are using acrylics in a similar way I would like to use them...
thanks

Glad you mentioned it, absolutely nothing to be sorry about. I just used your comment to make a broad statement, which I should not have done since it didn't directly apply to your post. Sorry about that. And please feel free to share your thoughts, I think art should be discussed. Look at how much I ramble on.
