Description
18x24" 45x60cm acrylic on hardboardSummer would not be complete without a 'visit' to Long Sands Island and this is from this summer's visit. You might notice I avoid painting shorelines. The reason is that you have to paint them going up on your canvas but suggest that they're actually going away... The only way I know to do this is to paint features smaller and smaller as they recede into the distance. With my ham-fisted style of painting, making things progressively smaller is pretty iffy, so I avoid having to try it. (See my post for my previous painting.) In the same way, I avoid painting rivers that go up the canvas. They often look like they're going up hill. (And I'm not just talking about my efforts either.) I usually put a bend in them to get them out of sight quickly.

Hey my name is Rachel from Rachel Leah Photography [www.RLVphotography.com] and I am wondering if I would every be permitted to use this painting (or maybe some others in your gallery) as a backdrop for some photo shoots? Please let me know, it's beautiful (as is all your work!) and I think it would work great as a backdrop in some photoshoots! You can reach me at Rachel.Volkel@yahoo.com to let me know!

Hey Mac: Thanks for your comments. The street scenes work best in the smaller format while these scenes work best in my larger size. I get six 12x16" boards out of one sheet of hardboard or two 18x24" (and one 12x24"), and so it probably ends up that I do 3 smaller pieces for every 1 larger one just because I usually alternate how I cut the board. I'd like to come up with another place to paint in this large format, but the trouble is that I really don't want to paint "postcard" type paintings, i.e. strait scenic landscapes, like mountains, and such so it's hard to come up with a scene that's really different from what I've already done... Just have to wait for an inspiration. Maybe tomorrow... Keep cool!

I love outdoor artworks, The only reason i don't venture to deep wood places like Yosemite or deep within Canada(my Auntie Ina's homeland)I don't get along with Grizzly bears! I prefer to sit back and admire a painting of the woods.
(My wife says "Don't worry sweetie, I'll protect you,She probably can, Shes a Martial Artist, and a damn good one too!)

Nah, it's the blood sucking mosquitoes, biting flies and ticks that'll get you in the deep woods. But then, I suppose Texans, used to living amongst scorpions, poisonous snakes and blackwidow spiders don't mind things that don't kill you...
