Description Last one for this week, in my more 'lyrical' style. I wish I could paint more like this more often -- even though they are the least popular of the paintings I post each week -- but I have less command of how a painting turns out than one might suspect. For some reason larger paintings tend to be more 'literal', despite being painted no different, I even scale up my brush to fit the bigger size. Maybe it is because I think they require a bit more design. I'm working on it.

12x16" 30x40cm acrylic on hardboard

It seems to me that your larger paintings tend to have more things in them. I think that the more individual objects are represented, the easier it is for the mind to sort them out and give them a clearer place in objective reality.

But that's just my thought.

Personally, I like both styles, for different reasons.

I don't know if it easier, but it seems more important to do so -- that and the question of filling the space of a canvas or board with interest. It may also be a lack of courage to try to do so with so much less... On the other hand, I'm coming around to believing that there is no artistic reason to paint bigger paintings than you need to.(Though there is likely a business reason to paint big.)
