Description A pair of African Elephant cows cross a dirt road in Namibia, southwestern Africa.

They are clearly not pleased with the situation and shows this through posture (ears out, facing threat, tail up).  It is not yet a full charge (in a full charge, elephants will normally protect their most valuable asset - their trunk - by curling it up and hiding it under the head / mouth).  Still, because they had small calves (at this stage already crossed the road and hiding under sister cows), these cows did not like the feeling of being exposed.

Wonderful capture!  I really like how elephants protect their young at all costs.  What a privilege to photograph them

we had a somewhat similar, but much less scary situation in Kruger, when one of the trailing aunties in a herd  crossing the road gave us the stinky eye ("i see you")  - but nowhere this severe as shown here ... no place to turn around, so i put in the reverse gear and told my mother in law in the backseat she might have to duck quickly, if i stomped on the gas

how far away were you when this happened?
