Description
The latest in my "could have happened!" series. This time featuring Vader paying a visit to Jabba's Palace. My idea here would be that this takes place prior to Empire Strikes Back. Vader has been dispatched basically to warn Jabba that he can continue whatever seedy operations he's doing so long as he doesn't interfere with the Empire..andΒ also gives them a proper cut, of course.I wanted to get across the feeling of Vader addressing the harem, who are all nervous just to be in his presence. The slave girl knealing before him, bestowing a gift from Jabba, goes unnoticed by Vader.

I have a feeling that Jabba's got some vacancies in his security department;Β Jabba can smell sizzling henchmen down the corridor.Β I imagine that the Emperor found Jabba useful occasionally, but he sent Lord Vader--who just happened toΒ be in the vicinity--to remind Jabba how seriously he should take the Emperor's 'suggestions,' and how promptly the Emperor should get his cut from any profits. Β Vader will depart with the gift unnoticed--unless it's for the Emperor.
I really like how you worked with the lighting and shadows here, and howΒ the lightsaber's blade and those red life-support system lights make Vader the center of attention. Β

Glad you dig it! And yeah,Β I tried to keep the most intense reds on Vader to make him the focus.
My thinking was also that Vader was probably allowed inside peacefully by Jabba- Jabba knows not to try and stop him at the front door. The saber is drawn more for effect rather than because he needs to fight someone.

I think you're right. Jabba didn't become a galactic kingpin by being stupid. Even if the hutt had never met Vader, he would know that say 'No' to the Dark Lord of the Sith was a very bad idea. And I can see Vader activating his lightsaber to drive his point home. It seems to be that Jabba is trying to be mellow about the situation, but he knows that he's no longer the alpha in his own throne room.

Right on! That's how I wanted Jabba to seem..he's trying to appear cool..but he knows he's not the top dog at the moment.

Very cool work!Β
While very cool, I'm not sure that Vader would sully his hands with such a task.Β That is for the disposable minions or bounty hunters or some other sort of mercenary.Β Though to be fair, sending Vader in there, the Emperor would be letting Jabba know how serious the Empire is with his place in the scheme of things.
Either way, it's still a very cool piece of work!Β

Yeah, that was my take on it- a visit from Vader himself is meant to be pretty serious. Like- you only get one warning to behave.

Excellent work, good to see some of Jabba's cronies in the pic. Fett looks like his white prototype version thanks to the lighting

Jabba looks sorely tempted to hit the Rancor trapdoor button.Β Great work as always Livio!

When I saw Oola kneeling like that I thought she waited to be freed...because Vader was a slave once too he could destroy her chains?
But yeah...she presents some vine or juice

It's definitely an interesting idea, how he'd react to slaves like her given his own history. But I pictured him just too consumed with rage by this point to care about freeing anyone.

True. But it is odd that he ever set foot on Tattoine again. But it is not impossible because of his rage/anger. It can take the fear away sometimes.

Vader as messenger boy?
(though I've got to admit you delivered it with aplomb)

I was thinking it was like- his presence alone IS the message. And thanks!

I can visualize Boba yanking some twitchy Gamorrean away from the REMOTE vicinity of the trap door above the Rancor Pit.
"You push that button and we're all DEAD."
