Description Eelpaw walked along the back of the creek, his paw dipping into the water every now and then. He was surprised to feel the water warming up, and he wanted desperately to jump in. He knew that would not be a good idea, Lostwhisper had lectured him that so many times. He'd briefly mentioned iceskating to her once, and she shot him down almost immediately. He grumbled, knowing that the deputy was right, but he wanted to jump into the stream so very badly. He walked for a few more steps, then noticed something sticking out of the water up ahead. He raced up to the object, recognizing it as a large rock sticking out of the water. The rock happened to be perfectly Eel-sized, and the young apprentice grinned as he formulated a plan...

Wouldn't Lostwhisper be proud of him if he came back with a fat, juicy fish in between his jaws for her? He thought so, and hoped nimbly unto the rock. It was more slippery then he had first thought, and his claws scraped the surface as they tried to find a grip. The large stone appeared to still be covered in ice, which worried Eelpaw only briefly. His claws were strong and his legs were lean and well-muscled; he didn't think he had anything to worry about. He crouched down, trying to remember what his mentor had taught him about hunting fish. He hadn't had many lessons on the subject, as the creeks had been frozen over for nearly all of his apprenticeship. He watched the slippery bodies of the fish swimming about and he licked his lips, imagining their satisfying taste and the feeling of a full belly, which was something he was still getting used to.

As the apprentice was reaching out his paws with his claws outstretched and ready to swipe up a fish, a strong gust of wind flew by. It caused him to lose his balance, and he almost fell into the creek. The apprentice squealed in anguish, his ears flattening against his head. He scrambled against the rock in a vain attempt to regain his footing. But to no avail! The young cat tumbled into the creek. Luckily for him, the water was less deep then he'd imagined. He breathed a sigh of relief before squealing out once more. He felt something...slimy underneath his paws. He glanced down and almost leapt back to see that he'd landed on a fish, and large one at that. While it was squirming to get away Eelpaw's instinct kicked in and he sunk his claws into the animal's scaly flesh. He held it down for a while, waiting for it to stop moving. Once it's struggling died down and he felt the creature go limp, the young tom hopped clumsily out of the icy water. He shook out his fur and picked up the fish in his jaws, headed back to camp as fast as he could to dump the creature into Loswhisper's paws.

Eelpaw can level up this month and he's very excited...but first he needs to learn how to swim!
