Description
Kiara-Ne moved slowly, her bionic eye scanning her surroundings, looking for the enemy. Softly she cursed, hunting chameleons was always tricky. She cycled through the different spectrum, hoping to catch a signal that would reveal the target's location. Suddenly movement erupted behind her, and Kiara-Ne spun. A shape detached from the trunk of a tree, colours shifting brightly, and the Captain found herself face-to-face with the target. The chameleon charged, striking fast and hard. Blows thundered into Kiara-Ne's chest, and a hand grabbed her arm, preventing her from drawing her gun.
"Too slow, echidna," the chameleon said.
Kiara-Ne growled. She lunged, trying to headbutt her foe. The chameleon's nose cracked, blood flowing freely, and Kiara-Ne's gun dropped to the ground as they struggled. The Captain pressed what little advantage she had, kicking out and taking the chameleon's legs from under him. The lizard scrambled, reaching out for her gun. Kiara-Ne stomped down, but missed. She watched as the chameleon rolled away, aiming at her as he rose to his feet. Kiara-Ne raised an eyebrow.
"You gonna shoot me?" she asked
"If I must," the lizard responded.
The Captain's eyes narrowed, her focus on his finger as it tightened on the trigger. The chameleon smiled sourly.
"Time to end your terror, echidna," he sneered.
The chameleon pulled the trigger, but nothing happened. He frowned. He tried again. Once more, nothing.
"What, the?"
Kiara-Ne laughed.
"Bio-metric security protocols," she said, plucking an object from her belt. "Do you really think I would let just anyone use my gun?"
The Captain's flicked her hand, sending the object spinning to the chameleon who dropped the gun in shock.
"Catch."
The chameleon looked down at his hands as the object landed in them. His eyes widened. It was a grenade. Stunned he looked back at Kiara-Ne, his brain struggling to understand the illogical move. The echidna smiled cruelly.
"You may want to cover your ears," she said.
Kiara-Ne spun and ducked, the timer synced with the MP-404 concussion grenade hitting zero in her heads-up-display. A heavy WHOMP shook the air, sending vibrations through Kiara-Ne's chest, and a bright light shone out. The Captain waited, counting to ten before standing up and turning around. The chameleon was out cold, the force of the explosion throwing him back ten feet. Kiara-Ne smiled. The capture mission had been a success, and she had her prize. She called in to base, requesting a transport to come pick her up. It was time to head home and pour herself a well earned drink...
