Description
The 14th Assault Platoon weaved its way through the woods. Suddenly Technical Specialist Shackler paused as he heard the scream of an inbound shell.
"INCOMING!!!"
The members of the 14th responded to his warning, diving for cover amongst the forest dead fall. Only the Captain, Kiara-Ne remained standing. Shackler watched as she drew her gun and used the advanced tracking systems in her bionic eye to sight and lock onto the shell. She fired two shots, and the shell detonated. Shackler reacted, stepping in front of the Captain, and covered them both with his long coat. Shrapnel whistled past, and those pieces that hit were stopped by the special Kevlar weave in the coat. Shackler and Kiara-Ne braced against each other as the shock wave passed over them, and then Shackler stepped aside, drawing his own gun. Shoulder to shoulder, the two soldiers started to fire upon the enemy, and the rest of the 14th rose up, adding their own firepower. It was a smooth battlefield ballet, created by the discipline and trust the platoon had in each other. Under the assault, the enemy were forced to momentarily retreat into cover. Kiara-Ne took stock of the situation and began to issue orders.
"Cyclan! Seenas! Zippa! Push forward and hit their center line. Ali-Co! Miki-Ce! Kiera! Angle right and take their flank!"
The troopers acknowledged and set off on their missions. Kiara-Ne turned and addressed the 14th's communications officer, Lieutenant Gien-Nu.
"Contact Syntar and find out his status."
Gien-Nu nodded and activated the powerful communications array in her bionic dreadlock as she got in touch with the platoon's sniper.
"Syntar reports he is in position and awaiting orders."
Kiara-Ne smiled.
"Tell him, the word is given. Target enemy officers. Afterward, contact Deimos and get him to bring up our armoured division. Wait for him here, and coordinate our movements from the command APC."
Gien-Nu set about carrying out her orders.
"That still leaves us, Ma'am," Shackler said.
Kiara-Ne gave him a sadistic smile.
"That artillery fire came from the left," she told him. "I was thinking you and I should be able to take it, and then turn it back on the enemy."
Shackler gave a short laugh.
"Sounds like fun, Ma'am."

Kiara-Ne paced around the enemy command bunker. The spear head created by the 14th Assault Platoon had allowed the rest of the Dark Egg Legion to carry the day. In one corner of the bunker, Gien-Nu sat at a computer bank, gathering incoming reports, and coordinating the final clean up with Shackler. In the center of the room, knelt the enemy commander, flanked by Cyclan and Zippa. The man didn't know when he was beaten, and had been ranting the whole time. Not that it bothered Kiara-Ne. He would be turned over to Intelligence and become their problem soon. She gave a nod to Cyclan, and he and Zippa grabbed the commander to drag him out of the room.
"This is outrageous!" he protested. "Just who do you people think you are?"
Cyclan thumped him across the back of the head to shut him up. The last thing the enemy officer heard as he faded into unconsciousness was Captain Kiara-Ne's reply, her bionic eye blazing brightly as she stared into his soul.
"We are Legion!"
