I think you did a ggreat job with the portrait. It's not a traditional pose, but because of that it makes it a much more interesting piece. It shows how Merlin isn't a noble, but a servant and his causal stance works really well with that fact.
Fabulous colors in his skin tone.
And I like his dragon too!
