Description
An inside joke amongst some friends of mine made into a picture.I was also going to test out a new tool for me to try and get smoother outlines but it backfired on me when I started to draw curves. It was the freeform pen tool, it has the same mechanics as the pen tool except that you can manually do it instead of messing with anchor points.
The concept to me had me stoked, being that it smooths out a line that you draw (Which you can later fill in with a brush preset) but when I tried it out I was sorely disappointed, sometimes when I drew a curve it would ignore everything and just make a straight line.
The only way that I could get it to NOT be a straight line in this instance is if I exaggerated the curve in the line to the point where it wasn't even going over the sketch lines anymore.
Will I ever be able to do my drawings with clean lines?
But I digress.

Clean lines was something I could not grasp for the longest time - in fact sometimes it still eludes me, heh. But I found two basic methods for keeping lines simple, straight, clean, and uniform. One, as you've already found, is the pen tool. I don't use the free-form variety - if it's free-form I'll just use a brush, for linework anyway. But if you do the lines in segments, starting new anchor points with a new path, it can help control the at-times uncontrollable curviness of the tool.
The other was simply, a tablet. The first tablet I received for a birthday/holiday present some years ago was a Wacom Bamboo Fun; not top of the line but certainly a valuable tool. If you're using a mouse, you feel the difference with a tablet <
My two cents! Keep up the good humor!

Actually I already own a tablet, and I know all about the pen tool it's just that it takes a rather tedious amount of time to use it.
Thanks though.

Now that I think about it, I should probably go over this again because I kind of half-assed the outlines.
