Description After Effects Animation...
This counts as a so called "limited" animation, as there is "only" one base image used, this time I needed like 30 parts or so, each leg, each hair part, etc. etc. animated using the puppet tool and wave mesh in AfterEffects. Even though I've been working over a year with it now, there is so much to learn...

Base image of this is here: [link]

Fullview shows the whole thing in a rather good quality as a flash-animation, it's a frame-by-frame thing though, just saved it as a flash file so I can put it up here.

this animation is so ridiculous I must add this to my fav. It's easily to see you have no idea about horse riding.
The worst parts are horse's head and this hero's legs... and his whole position.
Reins are too loose and the animal's head is moving in very unnatural way. When he's holding reins like that, his horse is going to turn left rather violently or just stop - rider has no control over his mount.
As for the man, he is sitting on the horse's rump - it should be closer to the cervix.
Hint: almost all of person's body weight is located on stirrup irons when galloping. So your hero fell down long, long ago, because his legs are flying like ballerina's.

you have done the great work with this animation - the details of it, this smoothness. it could be perfect art if you knew any basis of horse riding.

I feel like his arm and upper body should be moving more if the horse is galloping but what you have is very well done (:

amazinggg!!! my only critic being the guy's foot looks like a freakin ballerina and the animation seems a bit...unnatural like the horse running isn't smooth

you got the movements of the horse right but your proportions are kind of off. not trying to be rude just helpful! but other than that its really good

way to go with the puppet tool man i just can't get the hang of that thing
i just parent a bunch of layers when i animate

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lizkay In reply to lemonhorse [2010-04-29 19:40:14 +0000 UTC]

I needed ages to find out how to make key-points that actually 'work' with the puppet tool
but once you get into it, it's definitely fun to animate with it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lemonhorse In reply to Lizkay [2010-04-29 20:22:59 +0000 UTC]

so i've been told i only used it to animate tails and stuff like that here see if you have any interest or time

Oh, just looked at it, that's some great work!
I just played around with the puppet tool and ended up animating 'all' with it (mainly because I am a bit lazy )

i had to do that for a school assignment, if it was up to me not much would have gotten done haha
(i'm rather lazy myself)

Lizkay In reply to Rasa88 [2010-03-25 06:35:50 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I didn't take it that way
Main reason why this is in 'scraps' and the still image isn't. This was a complete training piece, the first real try to work with AfterEffects doing a movement there, to be honest, I only did that to have a 'result' in working, it's far away from being 'close to correct' but I learned a lot working-with-the-program-wise, so it wasn't really for nothing in the end, not to forget, it was fun

Rasa88 [2010-03-24 17:16:33 +0000 UTC]

I'm actually not a huge fan of this sort of animation because it pretty much crippled any anatomy the base image had :c

The chest is crushed and almost snapped in the middle due to the animation fashion
The back legs and back have very limited motion to them as well as no movement in the buttocks/hips and the head is lead by the body rather than the other way around <: 3
Its lovely as an image but unfortunatly not as an animation, which is a shame :c

Oh yes, that head bothers me as well, I tried to overwork this but the head with that animated mane and all that stuff going on is so hard to edit, do hope it sill looks acceptable

LaLunatique [2009-09-04 17:58:56 +0000 UTC]

That's very nice. The movement of the horse is quite perfect.
But for the rider, the hand that hold the guides should move, and the foot should not move too much.
I'm saying that, but your work really amazed me

macht Spaß die Tierchen laufen zu lassen

Very cool!
It's awesome that you had the patience to shade and detail every frame like you would a regular picture. I never seem to have that kind of patience xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lizkay In reply to jin-rikkun [2009-07-02 20:50:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
It's not a frame-by-frame animation it's a different level of 'limited' animation using the puppet tool in AfterEffects
So I only had to shade one image as a base and cut it into various pieces to animate it.
