Description After Effects Animation...
This counts as a so called "limited" animation, as there is "only" one base image used, this time I needed like 30 parts or so, each leg, each hair part, etc. etc. animated using the puppet tool and wave mesh in AfterEffects. Even though I've been working over a year with it now, there is so much to learn...

Base image of this is here: [link]

Fullview shows the whole thing in a rather good quality as a flash-animation, it's a frame-by-frame thing though, just saved it as a flash file so I can put it up here.

Thanks!
There are a few more things that really bug me.. the movement of the horse's head, the tail, the rider in general..etc. I did a lot less as I wanted to do with it in the beginning, badly I had to work blind at the end as the preview refused to work for me, so I would just count it in as a "try" in animation, do hope I can do something better when I have more time and better references I actually searched quite a while but couldn't really find any good ones..

^_^ Yeah. References can be hard to find. Don't look at jumpers or barrel races... they don't know the basics of riding either. They only know how to hang on for dear life and hope they don't fall. If you want a really good reference for a horse and rider in motion, don't look up riders at all. Look up the horses. Lipizzaner Horses are particularly graceful (horse and rider) for instance.

But it is still pretty darn good for a "try". the lines are very crisp and it is overall well drawn. My best shot at animation myself is my avatar... and I accidentally saved the small icon over the larger file

Danke

Duzloo In reply to Lizkay [2009-06-03 11:20:40 +0000 UTC]

Guck mal, ich hab was gefunden: [link]

The shading is flawless, the movement is smooth, the colours give you a sense of the heat of the environment - wow!

The mane and tail look excellent - perfect movement for them!

The only thing I could mention is the movement of the head - it bounces up and down much like a canine's head while running. Horses tend to 'push' through the air with their heads: [link] and their head movements are very smooth rather than bouncy.

I hope that helps! Once again, beautiful work!

Lizkay In reply to Bandarai [2009-06-02 20:19:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot!
I definitely agree with that head-movement, I do missed a curve on the end-key there as well, so there is a little "hop" as well, I think it would already help alot if the way the head goes up and down would be shorter and more forward

Nice.
But i think you could make it much better still with your talent.

And, don't you have all the time you want?
You could make a longer project. Who's stopping you? Or what?

Cheers!

Lizkay In reply to Antaria-Nova [2009-06-02 20:17:37 +0000 UTC]

Maybe..maybe..
I actually hit a lot of limits creating this, talent-,time- and tool-wise.

Oh and there is so much going on that limits my time, fulltime-job, real life issues, etc. etc. if I have 1-2 hours a day for art stuff like that it's a lot

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Antaria-Nova In reply to Lizkay [2009-06-04 10:00:57 +0000 UTC]

Well, can't you do so, that you keep on working on a project for... well, weeks? Taking one or two hours from that day, more or less from that, and so on? Wouldn't that work for bigger projects? Or do you feel compelled to finish them too quickly?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lizkay In reply to Antaria-Nova [2009-06-04 17:45:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh that is what I already do now, normally I need around a week for a pic until it gets finished, using freetime that way...
I also tend to loose interest if an artpiece takes me too long

you should totally make a short looping animation of CAB running Transforming into his alt mode then transforming and running.

That would be sweet!

Btw. this turned out reeeeeeeeeeeeally good.

the only tiny thing I'd critique about it is, in most cases when horses are running this fast, the man would be either bounching(hurting his rear) or standing in the saddle, because I've always been told that a horses kidneys are really close to where you sit.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lizkay In reply to FrankORourke [2009-06-02 20:10:01 +0000 UTC]

I already had that stated as part of that Demoreel we just canceled
I even have C.A.B.'s arm-part transformation as animated sketch-sequence and a rough storyboard laying around as I wanted to do his TF:A style-like transformation as 2D animation, never really got to do more than a few steps but I do hope I can finish it at all as I really want to
I am not too happy with the rider position there at all, I do had in mind that he is supposed to sit on there kinda "gawky" being injured and all that.. but eh, was just a try, do hope I can re-touch it, but the file just doesn't like me

Holy crap this is incredible. I can't believe you animated all that just by yourself, I can't imagine the time you had to have invested in that!

Out of curiosity, did you go to art school or is all of this self-taught work?
