Description
They're... so happy! D:Haven't submitted anything in a long time...can't be helped I guess. My teachers this semester are total slave drivers
Hope you guys dig...critique and comments are always appreciated. Thank~s
edit: forgot to say...some have already said it, but I already know it looks very miyazaki. I was almost finished with it when my roommate came up behind me and told me it reminded her of spirited away. Then I realized she was right and accidentally hit myself in the face with a roast beef sandwich. It might have been unconscious or something... but I know for sure that the sandwich was delicious.

amazing brushwork and detail as usual. also: good color choice for the background, its a nice contrast between the black robe-ish things and adds a n ice warm pigment to the masks.

Beautiful, really well done. I love the color in the cheeks, nose and ears -- really adds a lot. Its funny though, i didn't think of Miyazaki at all (maybe its been a while since I've gone back through his stuff) but I think this really has "you" written all over it.

This didn't make me think of Miyazaki at all, instead it reminded me of the mask man from Zelda with that awful face of his - but only for the rosy cheeks. That's just where the similarities end for me, and this is fantastic.
Did you have an actual mask to reference from? Because you did an awesome job with making them all look like the same mask from different angles. I hope you didn't mean to make it feel dark and creepy, because to me it is very fun and light.

I think the shoulder of the left figure is a little too beefy compared to the others. That makes it stand out too much. It may just be me, but my eye keeps focusing on it. I don't know if you did that on purpose or not, but it looks a little odd. Other than that, I can't really find many other flaws. It's a gorgeous piece and I'm envious of your skillz. Keep up the great work.

It's been so long since you posted, I was worried something awful had happened to you (because art school is enough like falling down a flight of stairs that actually doing so would be kind of redundant). Anyhow, subconsciously Miyazaki-influenced or not, your work still rocks my world. Keep it up!

I can see the Miyazaki aspects now that they've been pointed out, but honestly if you hadn't mentioned that in your description, I wouldn't have thought of it at all. The masks are nothing like No-Face's, really. And their bodies are, I suppose, but at the same time it's just not a really really striking sense of similarity. I loooove this. The colours you chose are excellent, I love love love seeing people use orange and green together [and doing it well].

It's really just the arms and legs that look miyazaki-ish to me. I think it's still pretty original! I like the way they fade into the background. They look creepy...

I find myself doing that sometimes. Like moments of "hey, wait, now I KNOW that dress I'm drawing is from a Ghibli film...". Of course, I have most of them and watch them often, so I think it can't be helped.
Anyways, this is lovely, really.

The arm on the right might be a bit too long compared to the other ones
beheind one ear we can find a blue area which differs from the other shadows
but in the end...
you have done great like always. Which school are you at for being so enslaved Guess it only shows that your teachers are serious about their job to do, good thing isnt it.
their faces look like masks.. well - laughing and stuff are kind of masks hiding the soul arent they...coming from the cold blue into the warm light.. thats symbolic ?
nice to hear from your art desktop again

I actually didn't register "Miyazaki" either-until I read you state it in your comments.
Then, I didn't really get it until I saw "No Face" later on.
I really thought it was very well composed-their pose without ground is very cool, along with the colors of this peice-the orangey-ness makes it seem so.. late.
There's only a couple things that bother me.
It seems to me that the three having conversation have bodies that are moving, but their hair seems as if it has stopped, almost floating.
Then.. uhm, the one facing us seems to have an elongated left arm. Like.. very much so. To me anyways.
ANYWAY.
Nice job. : D

It's quite "spirited away"-esque. I'm loving the smoothness of the overall painting too. ^^
