Well, most stereotypes have a grain of truth. Or in this case, a few hundred pounds. It's true that Thanos isn't big on "cunning," and his motives are surprisingly Hufflepuff-esque, but taking it upon yourself to "save" the universe by killing half of it... and being so dead-set on this personal project that you'll kill the person who matters the most to you to accomplish it... it's tough to get more ambitious than that. Anyway, Slytherin works into his backstory...
Slytherin, Home of the Ambitious and Power Hungry... Non-Humans Need Not Apply
FACT: The titans of Greek mythology are in fact a magical species, related to giants and cyclopses. (Source: my ass.)
Some of Salazar Slytherin’s descendants fooled around with non-humans, and Thanos could proudly trace his lineage back to his house’s founder. Or what would be his house, had he been able to attend Hogwarts. But back in the day, Hogwarts wasn’t as accepting of nonhuman students.
When Voldemort came to power, he wiped out much of Thanos’s clan. As a Titan, Thanos lived in fear of both wizard and muggle purists, and other magical species. He grew up heavily motivated by his obsessive love for his Slytherin heritage, and his backlash against its notorious prejudice. Thanos wanted a peaceful world with complete equality for everyone—magic, muggle, human, Titan, house elf, etc. In his mind, the way to achieve equal rights was through equal numbers; killing a calculated amount of each species and blood-status’s population, based on how numerous they currently were.
Perfectly balanced.
Infinity Wand
FACT: On the grounds of Ilvermorny School of Magic, in Massachusetts, stands a tree grown from the pieces of Salazar Slytherin's wand. (This one is actually canon: harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Sal… , www.pottermore.com/writing-by-… ). During his long journey to power, Thanos forced a dwarf to craft for him a wand from the branch of that tree, with a phoneix heartstring inserted inside, and girdles for the Infinity Stones. And then murdered half the dwarf's clan. (But, curiously, left the dwarf who'd forged the wand alive, allowing for him to pass on this information to Thanos's enemies and help them fight him.)
With a flick of his wand, Thanos reduced the half of the humans on the planet to ash, with the numbers in that half specially calculated for various groups. The half-blood wizard majority lost a sizable amount. The smaller Pureblood and Muggle-born groups lost fewer members. And the Muggle population, which originally out-numbered wizards by a long-shot, lost most of its members, evening the number of Muggles to the number of wizards.
Patronus
The cone snail is slow-moving, yet ruthless. It tends to attack its prey from a distance with a long poisonous stinger, not unlike a grape Titan using a magical arm (har, har) to wipe out his targets from afar.
“Children”
Thanos deliberately picked out children who he saw Slytherin traits in, and adopted them (after first making them orphans). He then raised them in ways that made the Dursleys look like the Weasleys.
When young Gamora first stood up to him when they met, that could easily have been Gryffindor boldness. But Thanos distracted her with his magic knife, while his guards murdered half her people and her family. Many if not most children would have responded as Gamora did, but one that the Hat would pick for Gryffindor would probably be the rare kid that’s defiant enough and brave enough to refuse all of Thanos’s distractions and manipulation. Gamora had the “single mindedness” that often gets one sorted into Slytherin, and made it possible for Thanos to manipulate her…at first. That same single-mindedness later helped her fight against his brainwashing and escape.
Ebony “Squidward” Maw, a goblin, grew up to be a classic Potter-era Slytherin. He could easily have been Ravenclaw, but the Hat does sometimes take your wishes into account, and Maw seems the kind of guy who’d go on about Slytherin superiority and “blood purity” (ignoring that he himself is a goblin, and his father is all for equality).
And Nebula… ‘nuff said.
The Sword of Salazar Slytheirn
...was a relic Thanos was proud to own, briefly... until Gamora stole it when she ran away. She used it as her primary weapon when fighting evil alongside the other "Guardians," but hid it from her "father" when he came for her and took her to the mountains to claim the Soul Stone.
Later, Thanos was both enraged and impressed when Tony Stark pulled the Sword of Slytherin from the Sorting Hat, and attempted to stab him with it. But unlike Godric Gryffindor, Salazar didn't program his sword to be used only by the noble. The Sword of Slytherin is amoral, and can be wielded by anyone who has the House's traits in enough degree, whether they're on the side of good or evil. Thanos easily snapped the blade off the snake-styled hilt, and made a Stark shish kabob.
I Hope They Remember You
Creepily ruffling the younger Slytherin's hair, Thanos mused, “You spend all these years obsessively trying to stop me--you, a mere human mortal, with no special powers beyond that of an average wizard. You’re a Parselmouth, you built your first super-broom in a cave out of scraps, you made a murder-bot in one night, you’ve demonstrated flooring cunning and ambition, and you pulled our founder's sword out of the Sorting Hat. You’re a credit to our house, Stark. When I’m done, half of humanity will still be alive. I hope they remember you.”
But there was a third Slytherin present, one who was not going to see the universe or his new crush be destroyed so easily. When Stephanigus Strange offered to trade the Time Stone for Tony's life, Thanos had little trouble trusting that there were "no tricks," because of Stephen's House. Thanos, ever the pessimist, fully believed the stereotype of most Slytherins being self-serving cowards, who would doom the universe for one personal friend, thinking himself "unique" for being able to make the "necessary sacrifices" to save the world. So he fell for Stephen Strange's obvious trick.
What Thanos didn't know was that it would take specific heroes from all four houses to defeat him, and Strange had deduced that Tony was the Slytherin the universe would need to ultimately take down Thanos.
Defeat
After Dusting half the universe, Thanos ruled the world with his Infinity Wand. He destroyed all of the Time Turners, to prevent anyone from trying to use time travel against him. What he didn’t know was that there were other means of time travel.
The following semester, the Avengers showed up with their own red Infinity Wand, housing Stones they’d collected from various time periods. All of the Dusted return, and a vicious battle went down, during which each one of the strongest Avengeres got a turn using th red Infinity Wand against Thanos’s gold one.
When the two Infinity Wands clash, Priori Incantatem is ignited, and the ghosts of those killed for the Stones emerge. Thanos is eventually taken down by his own two favorite Slytherins. Tony Stark uses the Infinity Wand to dust Thanos’s army. And while Thanos struggles to resist being dusted himself, two Gamoras jump him from opposite sides: one, the ghost of the “daughter” he murdered for the Soul Stone; the other, a stowaway from the past, plunging the Sword of Slytherin into his heart.
“For my parents,” the physical Gamora says, twisting the silver blade into his pump.
Before he dies, Thanos sees himself in a field, facing a young Gamora, the child he orphaned and kidnapped all those years ago.
“You love nothing,” the green child says locking eyes with him. “And so you have nothing. You are nothing.”
She, the field, and Thanos’s entire universe disintegrate, as the Titan crumbles into a pile of ash.
AN: Again, VERY special thanks to Farlinns on Tumblr ( farlinns.tumblr.com), for suggesting the most crucial part of Potterverse Thanos’s plan. Believe it or not, evening the number of wizards and muggles somehow wasn’t in my original synopsis. I have no idea how that didn’t occur to me. Just more proof that it is ALWAYS good to have a fresh pair of eyes looking at your project.
Kinda slopped through this one, as I was much more concerned with establishing the backstory here than drawing a picture of Thanos. I'm not even sure how I'd do Thanos in that chibi style. (A buff, vicious Pillsbury Dough Boy, I guess? In another picture, maybe when he's stabbing Tony with the Sword of Slytherin.)
I wasn't eager to put Thanos in Slytherin, until someone on another site pointed out how it could influence his "respect" for Tony Stark. Then I was inspired.

THANOS IS
and this is perfect, though personally, id see Thanos as a raven claw. just a completely amoral one. kind of like Lelouch vi Britannia from the anime code geass.
and also again my issue with the lack of different kinds of bad guys in the potter verse comes now for thanos. personally I think Thanos would be some kind of malevolent giant/titan or dark spirit as everything linking back to lord no nose and Slytherin is abit sallow for my liking. as surely there are other kinds of evil other than wizerds.
but boy howdy ive being waiting for a chance to share these videos with you.
