Description
SPOILER WARNING: If you don't know that Peter Lorre dies in "Casablanca" because Humphrey Bogart doesn't help him, then this picture might contain spoilers. It was getting near bedtime, and I suddenly found myself in a very strong Peter Lorre mood, and decided I couldn't go to sleep without adding some Lorre to my digital gallery. The bottom came out looking unfinished, but since the character is Ugarte, a "ghostly" look would make all kinds of sense. (I might say "Heavenly," but I doubt Ugarte is up there with the goody-goodies.) So in less than half an hour I completed a nice picture of Ugarte's ghost wondering why that asshole Rick didn't help him. (To which God answers, "Because otherwise the Greatest Movie Ever Made wouldn't have a plot.")
I don't own Casablanca or the rights to Peter Lorre.
If you don't know who Peter Lorre is you are missing out on life. He is the delicious creep whose likeness was spoofed with the Maggot from "Corpse Bride," the f*cked up lamp from "The Brave Little Toaster," the mad scientist in "Loony Tunes," and probably ever other cartoon out there. But cartoons tend to get him wrong, because the man himself is far weirder and sexier.

In fairness, Rick runs a bar. What the hell could he actually do to stop them?

If "Robot Chicken" was still capable of being funny I'd write them a letter right now!

Oh, snap.
I haven't watched it in a long time...I thought it was cancelled to be honest

I don't know if it's still on the air. But if it is I doubt either of us has missed much. The show was hilarious when I was in high school, which was a decade ago. But it went to shit, as most Adult Swim cartoons did, and worse than most.

Ah. I don't even know what's on Adult Swim anymore. I don't have cable.

See it.
Or at least Peter Lorre's scenes.
Or just go to You Tube and watch as much Peter Lorre shit as you can find. His creepy legacy must live on!

He was so sad and adorable, and kind of impressive with the enthusiasm with which he resisted the cops. I love how Ugarte whips out this totally unexpected side of badass in his last scene.

You should see it! It's "the greatest movie ever made" after all! (It would be greater if they didn't kill Peter Lorre after two scenes.)

Way to be a first though hehe.

Ok okay. I misunderstood.
There's plenty of other "Casablanca" fan art, but maybe not in this toony style.

This is great! I love how you did his face. I always loved his dialogue with Rick ('You despise me don't you?' 'If I gave you any thought I would')

Thanks !
I probably have all of Ugarte's dialogue from the movie memorized (due in no small part to how sexy his voice is). Every line out of Peter Lorre's mouth is on the movies' "best lines" list in my book, and in between it Peter still steals the scene with his expressions and motions.

Eeeee! My daily Peter fix! Ugarte as a ghost, I never would have thought of that but it makes perfect sense. I want to be his cigarette.
A couple local theaters will be playing The Maltese Falcon next month; it's not Casablanca, but at least Peter's got more than five minutes of screen time, LOL!

Turned out they were playing "Falcon" in my hometown too, as my sister altered me. My folks and I saw it. My mom was so bored, I felt bad for dragging her there.

Ehh, well, the classics aren't for everybody I guess. I've yawned my way through several 'significant' films myself.

"Falcon" bored me a lot too actually. I realized that the last 34 or so times I watched it, I did so while doing chores or drawing, only stopping for the really good scenes (basically the ones with Peter Lorre or Elisha Cook Jr.)

That, and it seems like Joel Cairo is one of the only characters in the entire movie who actually DOES anything. We hear about Effie doing her own detective work, but never get to see it. Wilmer is supposedly a gun slinger and a pyro, but we never see him shoot anyone or set anything on fire. The Fat Man is supposed to be so terrifying, but all he does is talk to Bogart until he literally falls asleep. Cairo on the other hand is the only one taking action in most of his scenes (sticking up Spade, having a catfight with Mary Astor, making out with his umbrella, having his famous meltdown at the end...) That annoys me about "Falcon;" it keeps introducing all these intriguing characters and not letting us see them do what makes them so interesting.
