Description
~Chapter Five~School the next day was pretty normal. I saw Walter a few times in between classes, and we both said hi to each other. We talked for a while during lunch and after school, and when I got home and opened my backpack, I found a note. At first, I thought it was from Walter, but what it said didn't really seem like it came from him.
The note read, "Dear lovely, I must speak to you. One day, when I know that you have forgotten this letter, I will surprise you. I must be with you! I'm sure you know who I am. We have spoken before. Outside of school, and inside. I will not tell you who I am until the time is right. I will approach you at the must unexpected time, and that is when you will know who I am. Goodbye for now, Priscilla. I love you. <3"
I read it again, and again, trying to recognize the handwriting, but I couldn't. I would make sure that I thought about this day and night and be very careful outside of my house. For the next few days, I never walked anywhere without someone with me. I usually walked with Addison, since she is my best friend, but sometimes I would walk with my other friends as well. Sometimes, I would even walk with random strangers until they got creeped out and ran away from me. One day while I went shopping by myself, I got really worried. I looked around many times, always checking to make sure there was nobody watching me. Then, I saw Walter looking for some items to buy as well, and I just decided to hang around with him for a while.
"So what are you buying?" I asked.
"Just some ingredients for dinner. I have to cook for both Angelina and I."
"Oh, I see. Where is she?"
"She's at home. I promised her I wouldn't be long."
We kept talking for a bit, and then I told him about the note I had received. He seemed a bit surprised.
"Really?" He asked.
"Yes, kind of freaky, right?"
"Kind of? REALLY freaky. This person might be out to hurt you, Priscilla. You should be really careful."
"I know, I know. But I don't know what to do. I'm always just walking with people I know, and sometimes, when I get REALLY scared and I'm all alone with nobody I know, I walk with complete strangers!" I told him.
He and I talked about it a little longer, but then he had to leave. I wasn't a hundred percent sure if I should trust him or not, but he didn't seem very suspicious. I went on the rest of the day wondering who it could be. Maybe it was one of those really quiet kids I barely notice in the back of the room? Or maybe, just maybe, it was-
"Bryce?!"
He turned around, shocked.
"Oh crap! Please don't kick me again!" He said, backing away.
"I-I won't."
"Okay, good. What do you want?"
"...is there any chance I could have you walk me home? Please...?"
After I had said that, I really regretted it. But to my surprise, he smiled and agreed. On the way home, I explained to him what the letter said. He stopped walking after I was done, and just stood there. I stopped, and asked if something was wrong.
"Priscilla, please...be careful, okay? If anything happens to you, I won't be able to live. That note...it doesn't sound good." He whispered to me.
"Alright, alright, I'll be safe. Don't worry about me."
We continued walking, and the whole time, we walked in an awkward silence. I thought about what Walter and Bryce said. They both warned me and told me to be careful, as if they knew something about this. I looked around once again, and saw nothing. Maybe I shouldn't worry that much. I mean, it's not like this person would want to kill me, right? Why would they hate me? Do they envy me? HA! Why would I think that? Who would envy ME?
When we arrived, I whispered, "Bryce...who do you think sent me that note?"
He looked at me. "I don't know, Priscilla. Do you have any enemies? Someone with a reason to hate you? Even if it's something really small you did to them?"
I thought about it for a moment. I shook my head.
"Then, I'm not sure. I'm sorry. Be careful..." He said, leaning closer, and closer, and closer, until-
"PRISCILLA! GET INSIDE ALREADY!" My mom screamed from the door.
Bryce smiled at me in a really flirty way. He turned around and walked away. I smiled as he left. I walked inside and when I got to my room, I called Addison.
"Addison, today was incredible!"
The next day, it was Saturday. I invited Addison to come with me to go shopping, and she agreed. While we were shopping, Addison pointed out a store she really wanted to go to, but I wanted to go to the store right besides it. And we both eagerly wanted to go in, so we decided to split up real quick for just about thirty minutes. We agreed to meet outside both stores after we were done. I looked around at all the beautiful, but expensive clothing. I tried on a few, but when I looked at the time, I saw that it has been almost an hour. I bought a couple things and went outside. Addison was nowhere to be found, so I went in to the store she had gone to.
"Excuse me, have you seen my friend in here? She has long blonde hair, and she's about my height but a bit taller, and she has the same eye color as I do? She was wearing a...purple...no, green, green tank top and skinny jeans?" I asked one of the workers.
"Oh, yeah, sorry, sweetie, she left about twenty minutes ago," the lady said, chewing her gum loudly.
I paused. Why would Addison just leave like that? I went outside the store and looked around. I thought about calling her name, but I wouldn't want to disturb everyone around me. I walked around a bit, and then I saw Nathan by the tattoo parlor. I ran up to him and begged him for help.
"Yeah, alright, Priscilla. I've got some time to spare." He told me.
We looked around for Addison throughout the entire mall, but we couldn't find her. I decided since neither of us were really talking, I thought I'd mention the note. As I explained to him about the note, he seemed as surprised as both Walter and Bryce were.
"You should watch out. That guy sounds like he wants to do more than just talk to you, Priscilla." He warned me as well.
I sighed. "Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. Everyone has been telling me the same thing."
We talked about it for a bit longer, when he saw Addison by a small restaurant.
"Addison, where were you?" I asked her.
"I'm really sorry, Prissy, honest! I just wanted to look around for a gift to get you, since I had finished shopping quickly, and then I got really thirsty, so I just stopped by here for a quick drink and a bite to eat." She apologized.
"Oh, it's alright, Addison! I forgive you! It's not like you were TRYING to ditch me." I said.
As we spoke, Nathan left. I wasn't sure who I should trust. Bryce, Nathan, and Walter are completely unsuspicious. None of them seem guilty at all. Maybe it wasn't any of those three. Maybe it was someone else. Maybe it was someone that I don't even know very well.
