~Chapter Nine~
"What are you guys doing?" Angelina asked as she walked in the living room. We panicked and scooted away from each other.
"N-nothing!" Walter and I said at the same time..
I can't believe that I got interrupted AGAIN! This has happened way too many times! Am I not supposed to get my first kiss then?
"Angelina, pass the eraser please," Walter said.
Angelina gave the eraser to Walter, which he immediately dropped. He was bright red still from what almost happened. He fixed his glasses and we continued working on the project. Walter and I didn't talk for a few weeks, but slowly, we began talking a little bit more each day. Soon enough, everything was back to normal, and it seemed like nothing had ever changed. Well, there was one week left of school now, and I was determined to get my first kiss this week! I hung out with Bryce and Nathan on Sunday. We went to the theater and the park. I invited both so neither would try anything and get the wrong idea and think that I liked them. They were both still pretty cool. I enjoyed hanging out with them, even though they both tried to hold my hand a few times, and once they held each other's hands by mistake! That made the rest of the day completely awkward for them both. Now that it was Monday, I decided to get to know Walter a little bit better, so I agreed when he asked me to dinner later. I dressed up nicely, but not TOO nicely. I brought some money as well, just in case. When we both arrived at the restaurant, he complimented me.
"You look beautiful..." He said quietly, turning all red again.
"Thanks. You look very handsome, Walter," I complimented him back.
During dinner, we talked a lot. Like, a LOT. We continued talking even thirty after we had gotten our food, and we didn't even take a single bite! But then we realized that our food had gotten there, and so we dug in. He payed for dinner, even though I insisted multiple times to pay, and walked outside. It was really dark and cold, but we sat down besides the restaurant parking lot to watch the stars for a while. We continued talking and laughing, but then I felt his hand on top of mine. We stopped talking, and suddenly everything got quiet. All you could hear were the chirps of the crickets around us. We both slowly closed our eyes and leaned closer, and closer, and closer...
"GIVE ME YOUR MONEY! RIGHT NOW, LADY!" A voice boomed.
I shrieked and opened my eyes as a tall man in dark clothing pointed his gun at my head. I was so scared and shocked, that I wasn't even upset that my first kiss had been interrupted for the millionth time! Walter backed away a bit, and then stood up. Was he going to leave me? I quickly grabbed my purse and took out all of the money I had brought.
"JUST GIVE ME THE PURSE, IDIOT!" The man shouted.
I felt some of my tears run down my face as I handed him the purse. He put his gun away and began running. I couldn't believe this! My first date was ruined! But want I was more upset about was my first kiss being ruined again. I looked up at Walter, who looked really upset. Suddenly, he began running after the man. I was about to scream and tell him to stop, but I didn't want the man to turn around and shoot him. They both ran across the parking lot, and began running in the streets. I heard a car coming, though, and it was about to hit one of them!
"WALTER-WATCH OUT!" I screamed just as the car smashed into him and the tall man.
The car immediately stopped as the man was sent flying off and Walter lay on the floor. Neither of them were moving. The driver jumped out of his car and began looking at them both. He covered his mouth with his hands as he looked at Walter. Then, he put his hands on his head. I ran over to see what happened, and if Walter was okay. There was a little bit of blood on the street, but not a lot. I crouched down besides Walter, and poked him a few times. He didn't move. I shook him a little bit, but he still stayed completely still. I wasn't sure if he was dead or not, but he was definitely hurt. I was mad, though. I was mad at that man who stole my purse and this man who just ran over my...date.
"What are you waiting for? Call the hospital or something!" I screamed at the driver.
"O-Oh, y-yes, I'm really sorry! This is awful! I'm so sorry!" He said, taking out his phone.
Tears continued falling down the sides of my face. I wiped them away quickly, and stood up. I ran over to the tall man with my purse and took my purse away from him. I took out my cell phone and texted my mom what happened. I ran back to Walter and sat besides him, praying in my head for him to he okay. There was a little bit of blood on the back of his suit, and a little on his arm and hair, but not too much. I kept telling myself that he would be okay. It's just a little blood, he'll live. He'll survive, and then we can have another date, and this time be more careful. I kept trying to think of happy thoughts to distract myself from what was going on, but I couldn't. I closed my eyes and begged for him to be okay. Right now, there was nothing I could do but sit and wait for the ambulance to arrive. It felt like hours before the ambulance came, but I know it was only a few minutes.
"I'm sorry, kid. I really am." The driver told me as the people inside the ambulance came out and brought Walter inside.
I wiped my tears away again, and as everyone began to leave, I ran behind a tree. I waited for everyone to completely leave, and dropped down and began sobbing. I cried for hours, but soon my mom came. She ran out of her car and crouched down besides me. She began telling me how everything would be alright, and how Walter would be okay, but I ignored her. I knew there was probably a small chance that he could survive that. At least he didn't go UNDERNEATH the car, so he does have a slightly bigger chance of surviving. Mom promised me we would go visit Walter at the hospital the next day, which was Tuesday. When we walked into the hospital, mom asked to see Walter, and explained to the doctors everything. The doctors said it was okay for a little bit, so we walked in to where he was.
"I'll be back soon, Priscilla," mom told me, leaving me alone with Walter.
I walked up to the side of the bed and poked him. His eyes opened, and I began to cry again. I was so glad that he was okay!
"You're alive! Walter, you're actually alive!" I said happily.
"Yeah..." He said.
He coughed a couple times.
"Ouch...why do my legs hurt so badly?" He asked.
"Well, you got hit by a car. But you're okay!"
"How long have I been away from school?"
"You only missed today, don't worry."
He loves going to school, so if he misses more than one day, he goes nuts! He sometimes even asks for extra homework after school. He was silent for a moment.
"Good." He whispered.
"Thank you, by the way, for trying to get my purse back from that lunatic!" I thanked him.
"Anytime."
"He also got hit by that car and taken to the hospital, but he's in much worse condition than you."
"Karma, haha."
We laughed and talked for a bit. Then, we were silent. I couldn't kiss him right now, though. He's hurt, and we're probably going to get interrupted again. I decided to save the kiss for a time when we are completely alone. The doctors and my mom came in a few seconds later. My mom said we had to leave, so I said goodbye to Walter and left. During the car ride home, mom asked me if Walter and I were boyfriend and girlfriend yet.
"No, sadly not yet." I told her.
"Have you had your first kiss with him yet?"
"N-no. We've gotten interrupted several times."
"Maybe you guys should go somewhere absolutely quiet. Somewhere where barely anyone goes to. A place you're sure you won't be interrupted at." Mom suggested.
That gave me a pretty good idea. I was going to go somewhere quiet with him, and I knew exactly where. It was the perfect, dark place. It was the Dark Side.
