This is a very good concept and well accomplished. You might be interested inΒ Green Man in my gallery that I carved (in Lime which I think is Linden.)
Assuming that the serpent is carved as part of the same block, how did you darken the wood of the serpent?
I did a serpent twisted around a tree trunk and I darkened it over a fire and then sanded away the burn marks in the surrounding trunk. Primitive, eh?

wow, your Green man is beautiful! I think that darkening over fire is a good way to do it, and it's all natural. I applied shadows and darkened snake with a water-based paint.

The tedious part is rubbing out all the burn that you don't want.
Thanks for the favorite.

Came across this work of yours. A very nice one I would say, impressive! Like the shape, texture and colours.
