Date: 1st December 1962NWR No.1 ‘Thomas’ is seen pictured here at Maithwaite mourning Sodor Bus, ‘Bertie’s’ death.
It is unknown to what happened to the Bus, but considering a small group of Soviet spies had been captured, bloodied that night.
No.1 on the other hand was one of several engines used for attacking Communist partisans in the UK, early on in the war.
Today is preserved on the Ffarquhar Branch Heritage Railway and is their flagship.
