Originally, this was meant to be a redraw of my Night Elemental pic, but then it seemed to turn into this ^^'I quite like it, and will probably rework some other parts on it, but I wanted to share

I've actually got several started pictures, i spent so long on my latest pic that i've managed to put myself in a bit of an art block ._.

Yeah it happens to me too, and when it does I usually delete most of them -.- To get out from the art block I suggest to sketch a lot....it works for me!!

Mhmm...that would look as if you identify yourself with your character, as if you where the same thing! I don't know...maybe try to change your real name into a username or something like that, or maybe the name of something you like...I really don't know

The concept you have going here is great, but right now it still feels like she's a separate layer on top of the background, rather than a body occupying space.
I think the best way to address that is to create shadows on her body that are much closer in color to the background (this will also help to make the glowing effect look more glowy, which will give the whole thing a much more epic feel) and also to incorporate the swirly ripples a little more. Maybe add a few more ripple lines, or try to make something of a 'cloudy' look with the blue color.
Basically, what you need is more contrast between shadow and light. The light you have is perfect as is, try not to fiddle with that at all, but definitely don't be afraid to 'lose' some of her definition by adding shadows that blend into the background. It'll look incredibly dramatic in the end!

That's one I've not actually heard of...
Hmm. I'm not sure what kinds of tools you have, so here's a couple ways you could go about it:
1. If you can change the opacity of the brush strokes, use the color of her body and add a whole bunch more of it to the ripples area. Then pick a hue of that color that's as close to the same level of darkness as the background as you can get. Using the fuzziest-edged brush you have and, with the opacity set very low, gradually paint into the parts you added to create a gradient sort of effect.
2. If you can't change opacity, then do the same thing but start with a hue that's only slightly darker than the original, gradually using darker and darker colors over less and less area.

Might I suggest trying to preserve as many of the stars and whitish streaks as possible? The trick is to make the darkness blend more into the light for that area, so she looks more like she's formed out of the very stuff of the cosmos :3

Ooo that should work, I'll try that out after I've finished seriously messing about with the picture in GIMP... I've made it all very...abstract now XD
