For linux users the joke keybord would be really hard:Β Alt + Impr Pant/Pet Sis (all the time pressed) and thenΒ RSEISUB
At least we have far less hangs of the system... another combination we use more would be the restart of the graphic server, that is more similar to windowsβ control+alt+backspace And that one is far more usual than a complete freeze that only responds to RSEISUB.

Since 15 years, I wanted to install Linux / Unix. Except for a short trial 10 years ago, I have not done anything. It is time to do so

If you are a really technological guy, I will recomend you to look for the Linux distribution you want, wandering through some of them Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Archlinux, Manjaro, OpenSUSE (maybe in a virtual machine or throught USB lives).
If you don't have much time to learn in full Linux (or you just want the things done) I think you should go directly to Ubuntu (that is the thing that I use and the majority). The 14.04 LTS Version (that will be realeased in 04/2014) it promise to be a really good realease.
The best thing to do I think is try it with a USB live (the 13.10 version, so you get used to what ubuntu is). Anyway if you don't like the interface of Unity, the GNU/Linux enviroment is the land of alternatives so you can get a KDE, GNOME 3, gnome-classic, whatever desktop enviroment.

Yes, I think Ubuntu is a good choise. I have here an older PC, which is a perfect Test-PC for playing around with the first steps in Linux. For the UI I have to take a look later. There are so many good ones

Happy New Year! + featuresIf you think about it, today is no different than any other day of the year. Sure, the calendar for the year 2013 ended, and when we write the date today it's a different year than it was yesterday. But our year might have just as well ended three weeks ago. Or six months ago. Or tomorrow. Nothing happened yesterday that was of any consequence. There was no cosmological event that switched the year. It's totally random.
And yet, there's something slightly magical about starting a new year. It's like starting a new diary, or going outside for the first time after a snowfall, when all you see outside is an untouched, glittering plain; and it will be your footsteps that make the first marks.
Happy New Year, and may it be the most wonderful yet!
