Description Tagiades gana gana is one of the commonest representatives of this genus in Singapore. The wings above are dark brown with darker spots along the discal area of the wings. The tornal area of the hindwings are whitened and has diffuse black spots along the edge.

All the Tagiades species are sun-loving butterflies and fly so rapidly that only the whitened area of the hindwings are seen, giving the illusion of a smaller white butterfly in flight. This photograph shows the characteristic flat open-winged posture which is usual amongst the Tagiades species.

Scientific Name: Tagiades gana gana (Large Snow Flat)

Description
Family : Hesperiidae
SubFamily : Pyrginae
Common Name : Large Snow Flat

The fact that you managed to get that close to the butterfly with scaring it away is amazing in and of itself.

some practice will help, small movements and try not to cast our shadows on them

Taking a picture of a butterfly is very hard, so you must be quite talented. Did you use a lens that magnified the picture?

log1t3ch In reply to Darkshine-Dragon [2009-02-07 23:56:37 +0000 UTC]

well some species are more skittish than others. there is a certain degree of difficulty but nothing unmanagable. i just use the common macro lens in the market. this was taken by my trusty old tamron 90mm macro before i upgraded to the 180mm macro. these lenses do not really magnify the picture but it allows a 1:1 magnification of the image to the camera's sensor.

thanks for the kind words. this was when i first started butterfly photography, and i didnt know nuts about shooting them. if i remembered correctly, there was a flowering tree,( the butt is feeding on one of the flowers) Leea indica which can be found all over in our nature reserves. just manage to squeeze a few shots off it before it took off.
