Description Short sword scimitar
Blade Length: 17"
Blade: 1080
Handle Material: Thuya burl

I wanted to do an actual scimitar, but man those are pretty big. So I figured I would do a slightly smaller version of it that I could manage in my photo box.

Tomorrow's 'knife' won't be a knife at all. It won't be like anything else I've ever made before. You're excited. I know.

It's really fantastic, but it looks more like a veery long knife than a scimitar

More of a seax than a scimitar, but a very beautiful blade regardless.

Seax is such a broad term though.

Reference the Norse type IV/II Longseaxes.

((Apologies if this is coming across as nitpicky and pedantic, by the way.))

Not at all. I enjoy listening to what other people think.Β

Aye, but it's also the blade form that fits this weapon the closest. A scramasax or longseax would be more specific terms?

Negative. Scimitar:Β en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scimitar Β Saber with a curved blade. Not all scimitars are curved up dramtically, of course. But when you say it that is what people think of. With a image search on any of the main engines, you will get mainly sabers with some degree of curved blade and a short sweep on the spine with a false edge. Like this short sword that I have made. ^.^

Where Seax means knife. Literally. If you do a search for seax, then you get mainly broke back seax images.Β Most people when they hear Seax think of the broke back or something along those lines. Almost always thinking of a completely straight blade. This is neither. Even the image linked doesn't have one with lines like this.

Which is why it falls into that category. Plus it is a smaller version of a historical scimitar that I was able to do research on at a museum. Which is a scimitar from Turkey I believe.Β

Wow man, that is really pretty. When you said you'd made a scimitar, I kind of grimaced at what it might look like in my head...but you sure impressed me again.
