Step 10: Stamping

Not really much to the stamping part. Just make sure you are on a solid, level surface. Keep your stamp straight up and down and hit it with a hammer.

If you are having trouble with your stamp coming out clearly the first hit and you are hitting it with force, your knife might not be completely level. If this is the case you need to do more sanding. When stamping sometimes my stamp bounces and my knife will get scuffed, so I like to sand away those marks before hardening and tempering my knife.

This is the last step before heat treatment. The blade and handle still need to be touched up, but its nothing big so I will do it once I finish heat treating it. But this concludes the stock removal tutorial.

Heat Treating:

I updated my website so that it has this tutorial on it.

The steps are a little different, because when making it on here I was....lazy and I saved the hard parts for the end. But both ways get to the same point and the tutorial on here is a lot more in depth with all of my rambling included.

I'll put the Hardening/Tempering tutorial up soon. Hopefully I'll finish this knife soon. -.-'

Thanks for taking the trouble to post your process! I love seeing how people work with harder metals than I use! Can't wait to get my chopsticks!

Can you recommend a decent stamp supply company?

All of mine came from Harper Manufacturing. The one I ordered this time, I ordered through Riverside Machine, it was a little more, but I just wanted to see if it was any different.
