Description
A carriage trods along a long forgotten road, it has been journey through the land for months, and finally it’s destination is visible to its passengers and its conductor. The glorious gothic architecture built with darkened stone and marble, proudly contrasts with the rays of the sun.
Even though it hasn’t seen a trace of life for over 20 years, nature didn’t dare to claim its walls, nor the bridge that leads to it.
The carriage stops in its tracks as soon as it reaches the city’s gate, which ominously welcomes its new visitors.
The conductor sigh and open the door to carriage, inside there are two well dressed young men, wearing what the man assumed to be hunting gear, expertly crafted although it’s anyone guess for what beast it is for.
“Alright, we’re here”
The young gentleman wearing black and red clothes responds:
“Thank you for your time, its been hard to find someone willing to take us to the city”
The other passenger on the other hand remains quiet, as he did for the majority of the journey, nodding as a sign of thanks.
“No problem, I’m not one to believe in fairy tales and horror stories, however, now that I’m here I can’t deny that this place gives me the chills”
The man felt a cold breeze slithering down his neck, then, moved by curiosity, he continued:
“Say, is it true that Yarnhamites drank blood, believing it would heal their wounds and diseases?”
His more talkative companion responded:
“They most certainly did, it came to a point where blood was more prevalent than alcohol in this city, some even became addicted to it”
The man shriveled in disgust to that vile thought:
“My god, what kind of savages would do such things, no wonder no one noticed when this shit hole went quiet”
“Simple my friend, they had proof it worked”
The man remained stunned for a second, not fully grasping what the young man just said.
After helping the two to unload their luggage, intrigued and shocked by the gentleman responded, he asked once again:
“So, what exactly do you mean by they had proof?”
“For a man who doesn’t believe in fairytales and horror stories, you sure do ask a lot of questions”
“Forgive me if I sounded disrespectful sir, but I can’t rap my head around how human sacrifices and blood could….”
“No one’s said it was human blood, nor that there were sacrifices, not in a religious sense at least”
The man once again was perturbed by that answered, he wasn’t sure if they were messing with him or not, but their outfits, their luggage and the young man conviction in its responses, made him believe in the latter option.
“You have an inquisitive spirit sir I’ll give you that, but sometimes believing in fairy tales and such fanfare is better than searching for the truth”
The young man in black and red than turned to the other passenger:
“Come now brother , is best we leave our dear conductor here to wait us”
The man demeanor suddenly shifted to calm and composed to extremely serious:
“Good sir, if in a few hours you don’t hear the clock tower’s bell rang 3 times, leave us behind and go back to the city, if not then there are plenty of supplies here for you and your horse that should last for at least two weeks, if we do not return in such a time, then leave and never come back, if you wish to live long and sanely then do not venture into Yarnham, this city did not got this empty all by itself”
After donning an odd looking armor the young man and his companion passed the gate, leaving the man behind to ponder on this final warning.
They had already paid him an hefty sum, enough to start his life anew, however he felt that something in that city was laying there waiting.
Neither he knew what pushed him, curiosity, greed, fear for what would happen to those two, or maybe something else entirely, whatever it was, the man chose to follow the two through the gaping gates of Yarnham.
