i mask the lineart color (in this case, black) and just erase everything else with a white pencil tool or rectangle or whatever ^^ thanks for the comment!

Can you plug in a graphics tablet into Paintbbs and draw from there?

loish In reply to ne-0n [2007-01-10 16:30:32 +0000 UTC]

yeah.. if a tablet works on your computer it'll work with paintbbs! although there isn't any pressure sensitivity

loish In reply to ne-0n [2007-01-02 02:31:57 +0000 UTC]

nah, it's not possible to scan a pic into paintbbs D: this picture took me a while, probably 4 hrs or so!

Aiyaaa ~_~ Such a well organized tutorial...You did such a good job on it!! >_<

A few questions though, I'm planning on getting a tablet of my own soon, and im wondering whether a few inches of difference in the tablet size is going to make such a huge difference >_< I mean like..is there really a difference between drawing on a tablet measuring 6x8 compared to one measuring 4x5? And, is it a good idea to get a tablet if you're planning to pursue a career in CyberArts? Sorry for the lengthy comment TT^TT... ~<3

it's definitely a good idea to get a tablet if you're gonna get into digital art. it's a must-have. the size is another matter... it depends on what works best for you. some artists do incredible work with a small tablet. personally i prefer larger tablets. i don't think there is an enormous difference in just a few inches, but there is *some* difference. it's just a question of what size you'll think works for you, and what you can afford. if you are a neat freak and want to draw detailed, neat lineart with your tablet get a bigger one. if you want to just sketch and paint with it a smaller one will do. ^^

applecyder In reply to ??? [2006-12-11 06:01:01 +0000 UTC]

quick question!

so I understand about gradient shading.. but when you shade (in this picture), do you use the regular "solid" paint brush, or do you use anything else like "water color" and such? or just "solid"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

loish In reply to applecyder [2006-12-11 13:37:51 +0000 UTC]

to get the gradient effect i used low-opacity rectangle tools, and for all the actual shading i used the solid paint brush. as far as i know, no water color.

nice tutorial.. is a tablet a must-have for oekaki?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

loish In reply to macyphoo [2006-12-11 13:41:31 +0000 UTC]

nah. i started drawing oekaki with a mouse.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

macyphoo In reply to loish [2006-12-12 02:25:34 +0000 UTC]

but using a mouse to drawing is HARD, isn't it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

loish In reply to macyphoo [2006-12-12 15:21:12 +0000 UTC]

yeah it is. but it's a queston of what you're used to. when i got my first tablet it took me a week to really like using it, and i had to force myself -not- to use a mouse to draw, haha. mouses are nice for detail, they're more stable than tablets. but it's hard to sketch, things tend to look stiff when drawn with a mouse unless you're really good with it.

macyphoo In reply to loish [2006-12-13 02:27:30 +0000 UTC]

But in some software like Manga Studio, the drawings looks nice even u use a mouse.. but it take loads of time to do it, and yeah u'll hurt ur fingers too.. (ouch~! >.< ). All my drawings are drawn by mouse...

loish In reply to macyphoo [2006-12-13 18:47:04 +0000 UTC]

yeah that's true, it's not good for your hand to be drawing with a mouse! i recommend a tablet if you're gonna keep up digital art, at least try a cheap one to see how you like it. you're also less likely to get carpal tunnel hehe.

I heard that there's a tablet called Wacom tablet.. Is it a good tablet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

loish In reply to macyphoo [2006-12-14 13:02:31 +0000 UTC]

definitely! there are different types of wacoms, you should check out the site (google 'wacom') and you'll see them. wacoms are pretty much the best tablets.

Oohhh~~~

I tend to get lazy with the initial line art and the final shading. ;; I need to quit doing that or my art will never grow. XD

This just gave me a bunch of awesome pointers to consider when making art. Thank you. :3

What about for those of us who use the basic pencil crayons?
You should do a color tutorial for that. ^^

loish, how can i change the "canvas" on the paint bbs? i want a drawing space bigger! T_T can you help me??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

loish In reply to belituca [2006-05-26 20:35:27 +0000 UTC]

that should be something you can determine either before the applet loads or on the applet page when you scroll down. otherwise the website you are using doesn't allow you to change canvas size.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

belituca In reply to loish [2006-05-26 22:31:24 +0000 UTC]

aw, i've downloaded it and i was fooling around with the little canvas, but i fixed it XD
i used the dreamweaver to make it bigger lol now i can choose the canvas size (it's really simple)
XD the problem now is that i don't know how to save the image(i take a screenshot and save it with the photoshop :S )

hey, trying to draw oekakis it's a bit hard with the colour but really funny

thanks a lot, however
