Description
An illustration from the captive project. check out a second here - [link] - and third here - [link] .Here's what I worked on for most of October/November - animation sequences for Bearkatt Productions , who made a Channel 4 (U.K) documentary about Tanya Kach's life (warning: the documentary deals with very shocking subject matter). 14-year-old Tanya Kach was held captive by an older man, phsyically as well as emotionally, for 10 years of her life - a truly heartbreaking story. The animations were intended to illustrate her emotions when she met her captor at a young age. She rationalized the situation by believing that she was in love and had found someone to take care of her for the rest of her life, something she longed for as a result of not feeling loved or wanted anywhere else. Of course, this was far from the truth.
The animation sequences are basically romantic fairy tale scenes with a 'dark' edge, showing a princess falling in love with her prince. They were edited into the interviews that were conducted with Tanya. What you see above is some artwork which was integrated into the final sequences, to which my awesome boyfriend Arjen Klaverstijn contributed animation and effects.

Heel ergΒ mooi, eerst lijkt het een heel romantisch plaatje, totdat je beseft dat het bos toch wel een beetje dreigend is...

Watched the program recently and knew I recognized the art style from somewhere. I just kept saying that's loish's art! lol Anyway, what was most fascinating for me was to see how the animation was so fairytale like against such a horrible story. The animations were really beautiful, though a part of me wishes that they were for a happy story.

I've watched about half of this already. As soon as I saw what the art was for I went to watch it. I seem to always watch that sort of thing for some reason.
Your drawings really came to life with the animation though. It was beautiful.
It's a very sad story though. It's a typical story of that sort of thing, but it's always sad to hear the first-person account.

I saw this documentary last week and when I saw the animations they immediately made me think of your work, but I didn't think they were actually designed by you .

That's amazing. I'm interested in watching the documentary, it's unusual for them to incorporate animation sequences.

I somehow feel very nervous about faving this. Like it's something so dangerous and dark I shouldn't 'fave' it. But the artwork is too beautiful for me not to. I just hope no little girls come to me in my sleep and ask me why.

...But in that it's such a scary thing illustrated so innocently. That's just extra kudos to the artist for doing an excellent job... even without the documentary this art has a very striking effect.

That's so incredibly deep and tragic. What's the word for when you sugar coat something horrible like this for the purposes of showing the contrast? I'm trying to explain to someone the angle of the story and can't find the words.

It's really interesting that you've thought about this and turned it into a project with so much depth, but the dark meaning aside, the peace is really beautiful and warm. The colors are really great and the softness of the piece isn't too much because there are subtle details like the flowers in the foreground. Really well done.

Wonderful lighting! I feel instantly inspired. Despite the subject matter being rather grim, you captured what you were trying to get across most excellently, I think.

I'm in the process of watching. The youtube comments are disgusting.... What happened to her was horrible, I can't even begin to process.
But your art is lovely. You and your boyfriend were amazing, working on this. Good job, Loish~ <33

Sadly, most of the people who comment on or use Youtube are scumbags and attention whores. Not all, but more than I am able to stomach.

As a psychology undergrad, this makes me weep. I can't say I'm an expert on the subject of abuse, but seriously... I could've counteracted every one of their ignorant comments and it wouldn't do much.
I wouldn't go so far as call them "scumbags" and "attention whores", though... just very very very misguided and ignorant. And in a society where we're taught to victim-blame...-sigh- it's not a surprise.
