how does her hair stay that volumous? who knows. drawn over a boredom sketch done in philosophy class. this is ariel (the little mermaid) obviously, for those who don't know :bscanned sketch, inked and colored in photoshop 5.

Man I love how this is colored...so smooth and clean, totally beautiful. Really like the twist and form to her pose, too, and the way the dot-coloring serves as scales. Brilliant.

About the hair:: Perhaps her parents had a naming seramony for her when she was born ( after all- she IS a princess, even if stupid Disney- which is really entirely not a stuped enterprise in the least- allways fails to remember when designing their "Disney Princesses" merchandise) and one of her mermaid fairy godmothers gave her the gift of eternally volumous hair.
Or maybe it's just an entitity unto it's self.

Hmm, what to say? What to say? Does it ge tiresome getting so many comments so quickly (53 at the time of typing. Though I'm sure there will be 70 by the time I'me don, 'cause I'm so slow). I just skimmed through them and I'm already tired.
Anyway, I guess the consensus would be the hair and the shading. I'm sure you get that a lot, considering your hair and shading are always great. So I'm going to go with something a little different. Personally, what draws me to this are the fins and the effects on the tail. I really like how when the fins over lap the transparency is slightly exaggerated and the really strong grid shows through. Even when the right one folds over itself the effect shows. adds a nice touch to the overall drawing. Things like that make it great. With the tail, I really like the contrast between the flat color and the shiny scales. Sure, one could argue that you were just too lazy to put them all over the tail

yeah i agree with you on that for sure. i was trying to change it a few mins ago actually, but i figure even though it's weird it's not really worth the effort of fixing.. it's not like a huge glaring mistake, just a weird aspect of the pic

I feel that way too. But most the time itβs 'cause I'm just lazy. Like on my last pic. Though, there are a few things that bug me and the more I look at it the more they bug me so I might actually fix them. Well, maybe......

perhaps her hair stays that way because she's constantly underwater, and since water moves alot, it carries her hair, thus making it look like she's got alot of volume... i think that's the only explanation i've got!!
