My Contest entry for #ImYoursContest .

Lately, I was searching for contests to join. And then, I discovered this contest [!LAST WEEK!] $115+ Draw ImYours' OC Contest held by IcesCrystal and NatalieAO . I find their story Abnormal War so intriguing and decided to take part in their contest, with a drawing of the half-person-half-zombie Tao meeting Kai Nam the first time.

It's also my first time drawing zombie/gore stuff. As usual, I wrote a small backstory based on my imagination and the reference sheet of Abnormal War. Hope you like it!

It had been a busy day at the restaurant. Tao, a newbie cook, was working overtime cleaning up the mess alone at the kitchen casued by the drunk chefs. Finally, at 11:00pm, Tao finished his work and left the restaurant. He walked through a dark alley in a bad neighbourhood which led to the small home he shared with Pu, his closed one.

Just when Tao was about to walk to the main street where his home was, he heard people yelling in fear. He turned around but no one was there. He thought it must be his imagination - he had been so keen in watching horror movies and reading rumors that a zombie virus broke out in the city but covered by the government. Nonetheless, suddenly, a half-nude obese man with greenish skin rushed towards him and bit his arm.

Tao let out a painful scream. By instinct, he took out a pair of kitchen scissors he bought a few hours ago as a replacement of the old one at his home, and stabbed it through the chest of the man without hesitation. The man vomited a pool of blood and fell down, not moving again.

Tao fell down to his knees, feeling guilty of what he had done. He had killed his senior with a pair of scissors who tried to rape Pu when he was a student. Now he repeated the crime again. As he was reminiscing, he felt dizzy and found his wound was turning greenish.

'I'm dying. It must be my punishment,' Tao thought. He tried to call Pu with his phone bought by Pu as a love gift to him. It was an old model, but Tao didn't change it since he saw it as a symbol of the bond between Pu and him. However, it was too late. He became unconscious before he could call Pu.

Tao had a strange dream of Pu disappearing. At the end of the dream, a voice told him to wake up. Tao opened his eyes, and a strong smell of blood nearly made him vomit. He looked around and found that the neighbourhood was completely destroyed. He looked at his reflection on the screen of his phone and was surprised that he was alright - only his arm turned greenish.

He got up and ran into the main street which was full of greenish zombies. Despite that, he by instinct yelled for Pu's name. At one moment, Tao thought he made a deadly mistake by attracting the attention of the zombies. However, the zombies had no interest in him. So he continued to yell while running towards the old 5 story building his home was situated at. Then, he found that the building had been burnt to ash, and Pu's glasses, broken and smeared with blood, was found at the narrow stairs of the building.

Tao collapsed, so as his dreams. He wanted to end his life, but the zombies wouldn't kill him, so he walked back to the dark alley where his scissors was still firmly stabbed into the fat man's chest. As Tao was about to grab out the scissors, he stumbled and his phone fell out.

'F**k, I even failed at killing myself,' Tao shouted. After that, a handsome young man around his age showed up and picked up Tao's phone.

'Give my phone back,' Tao glared at the young man.

'Okay, but would you be my bodyguard? It seems that you are immune to the zombies.' the young man passed the phone to Tao.

'Why should I?'

'You are desperate to find someone close to you, right? I have the means but I need a companion, while you are the companion I need who need my means. It is beneficial for both of us to be together,' the young mean explained cheerfully.

Tao thought for a while and nodded, 'Fine. I'm Tao, and what's your name?'

'Kai Nam,' the young man smiled, 'the top prostitute of the city's largest brothel.' He pointed at the fat man zombie lying on the floor and said, 'this guy was a big customer of our brothel, though he was an asshole and a nightmare to me. I was a bit relieved that he became a zombie and you killed him when the zombie virus broke out a week ago.'

'A week... I have overslept for a week...' Tao murmured.

'Anyway, let's travel to the safehouse in another district. I know someone there close to the top officers of the government which may know something,' Kai Nam suggested.

Tao stood up and walked away the alley with Kai Nam. And so this is their first encounter, which marks the start of their escape and adventures in the city infested with zombies.
