"Focus, Alex," I heard Charles say. I'm trying. I really am. And I was totally focused just a few minutes ago. But then (y/n) walked in, to watch with the rest of the group. Now I just can't concentrate. I like her so much and I just can't get up the courage to tell her. She's the coolest girl I've ever met and I get stupid whenever I'm around her. I sigh, closing my eyes to help. But instead I just see her face in my mind, so it doesn't help at all. I open my eyes and stare frustrated at the target in front of me. This is supposed to be a demonstration of how well I can control my powers now. Charles has such faith in me he brought the rest of the group to see. I have this sinking feeling his faith is misplaced. But I don't want to mess up in front of (y/n). I furrow my brow, getting ready. I can do it, I know I can. I close my eyes again and when I open them, everyone is clapping. Charles pats me on the shoulder. "I told you you were ready." I look in surprise at the target, the one I aimed at. It's shredded to pieces. The area around it is completely untouched. I let out a sort of gasping laugh in disbelief.
One by one, the team come up to congratulate me. It's down to a couple of people and I still can't see (y/n). Then Hank moves aside and she's there, a bright smile on her pretty face. Man, her lips...
She throws her arms around me. "I knew you could do it, Alex," she whispers in my ear. I hug her tightly, reluctant to let her pull away. Charles coughs behind me and I eventually release her.
"Thanks," I try to act cool.
She smiles and turns around, walking away. I try not to stare at her, but damn. Charles steps next to me.
"She is quite pretty," Charles notes, looking at me sideways.
"She's beautiful," I blurt out. Then I glance at Charles in horror, tearing my eyes away from (y/n)'s retreating figure.
Charles just laughs.
"Why don't you tell her?" he asks grinning. "I happen to know she likes you too." Charles taps his temple.
"Really?" I ask hopefully.
"Really," Charles laughs again, pushing me forward. I take the momentum and start jogging toward (y/n).
"(y/n)!" I call out. She pauses, looking back curiously. When I reach her, I stand awkwardly for a moment. I hadn't thought this far ahead.
"Um...I uh...I think you're amazing," I finally say.
She blushes, sending tingles through my body where they probably shouldn't go. "I think you are too," she replies, smiling.
I can't stop myself. I reach forward and kiss her, wrapping my hands around her face. She has the softest lips....She kisses back too, just as eagerly as I'm kissing her. When I pull away, her eyes are slightly glazed and her cheeks are flushed.
"Would you go out with me?" I ask, grinning.
"I would love to," she smiles and I pull her close to kiss her again.
