As enter your apartment that night, you sigh. It’s nearly three am. The police had talked to you for hours. The worst part was that they didn’t even talk to you about the guy who had tried to mug you. Instead, they wanted to know all about Batman. Apparently, Batman is a wanted felon. Something you hadn’t known. Something you can’t believe. You can’t compare Batman, the man who had saved you, to a felon, like the one that attacked you. You shake your head, not bothering to turn on your lights. You make sure to lock the door behind you. Then you enter your bedroom, pulling back the curtains to your balcony doors. You peer into the night, maybe half hoping you’ll glimpse the man in armor. But if Batman is still prowling though the dark, you can’t see him. You leave your curtains open, somehow feeling safer that way. You quickly take a shower and climb into bed. As you lay against your pillow, the entire night hits you. All of a sudden you feel very very tired. You fall asleep, dreaming of the mysterious Batman.
You’re not sure what wakes you up. Maybe it’s the feeling of someone watching you, or maybe it was just the subtle change of light across your bed. But as you open your eyes, now completely awake, you see a shadow cross outside your balcony doors. You silently curse yourself for leaving the curtains open. You climb out of the bed slowly and make your way across the room. The black silhouette outside makes your heart pound out of control. Without thinking, you fling the balcony doors open. The wind outside is cold and you shiver in your flannel pajamas, but you hardly notice. Your eyes are glued to the dark figure standing near the railing.
“Batman,” you breath.
“I wanted to make sure you were okay,” he replies in his gruff voice.
It takes a moment for your mind to process what he said. “Oh…. you followed me home?”
“Sorry,” he murmurs.
“Don’t be,” you whisper.
“So, are you?”
“Am I what?” you’re entranced by Batman’s billowing cape, flowing across the full moon in the dark sky.
“Okay,” Batman grunts.
“I am now,” you sigh. Then you shake your head. “Uh, yes, thank you. I can’t believe you’re a wanted felon,” you add quietly.
Batman backs up slowly.  “I’m sorry!” you hold out your hand, desperate to keep him from leaving, but afraid to touch him.
He stops. You can’t see him very well, but you feel his stare, heavy, calculating, and somehow tender. “I don’t believe it, I promise. I’m not working with the police. You’re not a felon.”
“Maybe I am,” Batman says.
“No, you saved me. And that….. You’re not,” you say.
Batman steps closer to you this time and your heart starts to beat slower. Everything around you zones out of focus. The only thing you are aware of is Batman.
“How do you know?” Batman asks you.
“You don’t kiss like a felon,” you gulp.
Batman chuckles. A pleasant sensation moves down your spine and you smile.
“You’ve kissed a lot of felons?”
Your face flushes. “No. But, your kiss was sweet and careful. I don’t think felons care that much.”
Batman is silent and the quiet is almost unbearable. Finally, Batman reaches up to cup your cheek, just like he had earlier that night. Your eyes slide shut. You feel the heat of Batman’s lips hover above your own.
“You’re right. I do care,” Batman whispers. You breath slowly, waiting. Suddenly, the heat is gone. You open your eyes, just in time to see Batman diving into the dark.
