Description
You run the back of your hand across your forehead, anxiously pacing. What will he say? You know he'll be happy. He has to be, right?
The door opens and you smooth your dress, putting on a pleasant smile.
"Darling," Fitz grins, "I'm back."
As soon as you see his silly smile, the worry flies from your head. "Fitz!" You run at him, throwing your arms around his neck. Fitz laughs in surprise.
"Someone missed me."
"I did," you say softly, pulling back to look at him. He has this ridiculously pleased expression. He leans forward and kisses you, and you melt into him for a moment. But then you push him back gently, having nearly forgotten.
"Fitz," you start slowly. "Um...."
His smile starts to disappear and he looks at you in concern. "Is something wrong?"
"Um...not....exactly," you twist your hands together, turning your back to him while rallying your courage. "It's just....I'm pregnant," you finally blurt out, squeezing your eyes shut.
Nothing happens. You open your eyes, slowly turning around. "Fitz?"
He's staring at you with wide eyes, seemingly frozen. When you meet his gaze he shakes his head. "Say again?"
"I'm pregnant?"
He holds out his hand, as if to steady himself, and you grab it, encasing it in your hands. You peer at him anxiously.
"Pregnant?" he squeaks. He reaches out his other hand, stepping toward you. He very slowly and carefully places his hand over your stomach. Then he starts gasping, in a sort of joyous laugh. "A baby. Our kid."
You nod vigorously, taking this as a good sign. Fitz grins, throwing his arms around you, pressing his face into your neck.
"I love you," he murmurs vehemently.
You smile, happy tears forming. "I love you too."
