You wander through the aisles, humming softly to yourself. You, Sam, and Dean had stopped at a local convenience store to buy some supplies. You knew Sam and Dean would get most of the supplies you needed, so you headed off by yourself, just exploring the store. Eventually, one section catches your eye. The nail polish section. Rows and rows of different colors and shapes and brands line the wall and you eagerly look at them. It's been a long time since you've been able to use nail polish. It's a luxury you can't often afford or have the time to do. You start to pick out your favorites and when Dean and Sam find you a few minutes later, you are deciding between two in your hand. When Dean turns the corner into your aisle, he groans.
"Ah man. I should have known you'd be here." He and Sam walk foward, Dean's arms full with donuts, box cakes, and chips, while Sam's arms are full with fruit, vegetables, and protein bars. Dean trudges through the aisle, raising eyebrows at all the beauty products. He stops to inspect something. From what you can see, you think it's an eyelash curler. Dean laughs. "Dude, this looks like a weapon," he jokes, but Sam is focused on the items in your hands.
"Nail polish?" he asks curiously. You shrug.
"Yeah, it's something I really like but never get to use anymore," you explain. Dean finally catches up to you and peers over your shoulder.
"Really?" Dean groans. "We don't have money for that."
Sam shoots Dean a dirty look, then turning his attention back to you, "I like the purple one." You hold a shimmery purple color and a dark green color.
Dean scoffs. "Man, I didn't know you were into that kind of thing. I'm not sure that's your color. I mean-oof" he's cut off by Sam elbowing him in the gut.
You've been ignoring Dean this whole time, concentrating on the nail polish....and Sam. "You think so?" you ask, holding up the purple.
"Yeah," Sam reaffirms. "I think it'd look good on you."
You look at it, then grin at Sam. You put the green back and start to put the purple on the shelf too. "Dean is right though. I can't really spend money on it."
"See, I told you," Dean gloats. "Alright let's go." He starts to head down the aisle and you move to join him, but Sam doesn't follow.
"I'll buy it for you," Sam offers.
"What? No, Sam, it's okay," you say. In truth, you feel quite touched he would offer. And confused. You have liked Sam for a long time, but you didn't think he returned your feelings.
"I want to," Sam smiles, picking up the bottle from the shelf.
"I- thank you, Sam," you're not sure what to say.
"Dude," Dean complains, "You are buying that separately. I do not want that with our stuff."
Sam rolls his eyes, pulling out his wallet and nudging Dean aside as he steps up to the register. He places the bottle on the desk and the cashier smiles at Sam.
"Ahhhh, are you buying it for your girlfriend?" she ask, ringing it up. You expect Sam to deny it, or correct her, but he doesn't.
"Yeah," he smiles.
"That's so sweet," she takes Sam's money, counting back his change. Sam turns toward Dean, giving him a haughty look. Dean just rolls his eyes.
After the lady hands Sam back his money, you and him head outside, leaving Dean to carry the packages. You both ignore his yell of complaint and step outside the door, walking back to the car. Sam takes the nail polish out of the little bag the cashier put it in and hands it to you.
"Here you go."
You clutch the bottle in your hand. "Thanks, Sam." You reach the car and stop, turning to face each other.
Sam shrugs. "Well, you deserve nice things."
You smile at him, trying to convey how much that really means to you. Then you remember what the cashier said. "Sam....why didn't you correct the lady when she said girlfriend?"
Sam looks at the ground sheepishly. "I wanted to be the guy buying his girlfriend a present," he admits. Then he looks up and meets your eyes. "I want you to be that girlfriend."
"I want that too," you reply softly.
Sam grins, leaning forward. Just when he's about to kiss you-
"Ahem. A little help would be nice," Dean interrupts. He's holding several bags up, glaring at you both. You and Sam share a look and roll your eyes, stepping forward to help Dean.
"I guess we'll never be normal," Sam laments.
"No," you agree, laughing.
