Um, sorry to bother you, but do you know how to make knee-high heeled combat boots? If you don't, do you know a place that can show how to make them? If you can, it would be much appreciated.

I thought about doing that for my Lenalee cosplay, she has very "skinny" boots too x). But I was planning to wear flat shoes. Do you think it'll work as well? There won't be holes in the stocking, but that also means no glue point like you did on the heels... Maybe i could put glue directly on the shoes so the stocking are attached there, and then with the felt like you did in the tutorial...

LolaInProgress In reply to BleuumScarlett [2014-02-09 13:17:36 +0000 UTC]

If it was me i'd stick the stocking over the shoe, cut a tiny hole anyway to put the glue in, then cover the sole with felt Β

Question: The character I am considering doing has an odd pointed shape winging upward from the top here is a picture. How would I go about doing that - or would this technique only work with straight topped boots?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LolaInProgress In reply to BlackHeartRock [2014-02-09 13:19:18 +0000 UTC]

Hmm this does only really work for straight top....though if you where careful and made that top detail from a light material you could perhaps sew it to the top of a stocking and use sock glue to hold it in place?

What do you mean by "make the first hole where the heel is stretching"?
I'm sorry if this is a silly question!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LolaInProgress In reply to OatmealDreams [2014-01-07 16:16:40 +0000 UTC]

No problem, my wording sucks ahaha. When you pull the stocking over the heel, the stocking will be very streched out at the tip of the heel. Cut a hole where the heel meets the stocking.

Does that make sense?

jokerful In reply to ??? [2013-12-17 22:32:38 +0000 UTC]

This seems really nice except for one thing. I feel that having a felt sole for the shoe would cause it to not have enough traction and would cause the shoe to slip a lot while you're walking. I could be entirely wrong though since I haven't worn shoes like these so I was wondering how the traction actually is.Β

Also, I'm terribly sorry if someone has already asked you this but there are just way too many comments for me to go fishing around for the answer.

i used easy liner, which is five bucks for ten square feet at walmart. excellent grip and easy to work with and cut.i also find it doubles a nice insoles.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

LolaInProgress In reply to jokerful [2013-12-20 12:56:28 +0000 UTC]

ahaha it fine

Without the felt your left with stocking fabric which is delicate and slippery. The felt gives excellent traction on most surfaces and protects the stocking fabric from ripping. If you are very concerned, you can buy off ebay stick on soles for extra traction, I sometimes just put little dots of hot glue on the bottom of the felt and thats acts like little rubber bits to add more friction.

Hope that helps!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jokerful In reply to LolaInProgress [2014-01-04 23:11:13 +0000 UTC]

I see! I would assume that felt soles wouldn't have much traction on most surfaces but now I see my assumptions were wrong so thanks a bunch for clearing that up for me!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LolaInProgress In reply to jokerful [2014-01-07 16:15:16 +0000 UTC]

No problem. The only surface felt hats it like...really slippery surfaces. But honestly ive done to like...5 cons in shoes like this and never had an issue!

Vmneko In reply to jokerful [2013-12-18 23:42:20 +0000 UTC]

Since you have the hot glue out already, why not just add some glue swirls to the bottom? I don't think felt soles would be a problem walking on carpet, but for tile I'd add some grip.

can always put some rubber or similar object as a second soleΒ

I was thinking the same thing but I'm still curious about the traction of a felt sole

ronkanoid In reply to jokerful [2013-12-19 18:33:15 +0000 UTC]

well i guess it would depend on where you are performing. carpit and outdoor concreat/tarmac should be fine its shiny floors and lino will be slippyΒ

Hi there! I'm going to be using this tutorial very soon, and I was wondering what you would recommend using for the top? I saw someone say ribbon, but I want to try and using something with a little more stretch.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LolaInProgress In reply to PiercePapercraft [2013-10-05 20:49:17 +0000 UTC]

Ahh late reply! Yeah ribbon is a pain tbh. I'd probs get a stretch fabric in the colour I want, sew that to the top of the stocking, Id probe put the stocking on, then wrap the fabric around the top and hand stitch it on. OR fabric glue has some stretch to it so thats another option!Β
