Description Hopefully you guys can follow this. This is the easiest way I've found to return any straight ponytail wig to its frizz free glory.

Any Miku or Linalee cosplayer knows how bad these wigs can get the moment you put it on, let alone halfway into a con. With the above methods though my wigs look brand new every-time I use them.

Added benefits is the product left in the wigs from this process makes them slightly less likely to frizz.

EDIT: The little pink bottle of wig spray is no longer available at this time, you can make your own with liquid fabric softener and water though!

This looks like it will be useful for my hip-length Satsuki wig, which has been worn twice for like twenty minutes each time and not once at a con, and is already frizzing up.

Could you post a new link for the wig spray on Ebay? The old one isn't working.

LolaInProgress In reply to RynnAgain [2014-01-07 16:06:37 +0000 UTC]

Sadly I cannot find that spray anymore! Seems to not be working! However you can make a version at home, Get a spray bottle, some liquid fabric conditioner/softener and mix it with water till its thin enough to spray. Works about the same! I hope that helps!

My miku wig went a bit frizzy...
so I laid it out on an ironing board, and covered it with fabric then ironed it - it straightened out really well!

Hi!
I'm gonna purchase a Miku wig soon, and I'm definitely balancing out which one takes the longest to tangle.
Still, I'm going to need this tutorial, I know that.
I'd just like to make a small note that I know wigs that can't handle just any brush. :/ Even quality wigs need a wig brush to keep falling strands to a minimum. Combs work just fine though. Brushing the wig brutally can have the same effect.
But since we're using a detangler, I guess it's safe to use any brush. I just like to be careful with my wigs. I don't want them to get a lot thinner every time I try to fix them haha.

I feel kind of dumb asking this, but I'm kind of comfused on what you do with the hairdryer
( I'm dumb )
And does this work on regular wigs?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LolaInProgress In reply to Melody-thornheart [2013-03-27 11:37:24 +0000 UTC]

Don't feel dumb! Firstly you should always test a small bit of your wig before attempting this but in my personal experience it has worked on every wig i've ever tried it on! Now with the hairdryer, think of it as an iron & brush. What you are doing is running the hot air of the hairdryer long the strands to melt them flat again. You angle the hairdryer so its facing down the hair towards the ends and by letting the hot air flow over the strands you are forcing them back into straight lines. I hope that makes sense?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Melody-thornheart In reply to LolaInProgress [2013-03-27 15:57:58 +0000 UTC]

that makes sense! I thought that the hairdryer would harm the wig- but if its already frizzy it would fix it, right :3 I'm currently trying to fix this purple wig that I got for an oc of mine. Its super frizzy and I've spent hours trying to fix it...and on one side the hair just fell off.
Cheap wig :I

LolaInProgress In reply to Melody-thornheart [2013-03-27 23:10:34 +0000 UTC]

Holy cow, it just fell off? That stuffs meant to be sewn on Yeah wig fibre is plastic at the end of the day, frizz comes from the friction of it moving and making heat, then getting bent out of shape, if you blow hot hair along the "follicle" towards the end of the hair you can bend it back the right way.

sherlymate [2013-03-25 03:10:04 +0000 UTC]

can you use normal hairspray instead of silicone lubricant/wig care spray?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LolaInProgress In reply to sherlymate [2013-03-27 11:34:54 +0000 UTC]

No, this is for getting the tangles out, hairspray is just adding glue to the mix and making it harder! The idea is to make it as slippery for getting the tangles out, hairspray should only be used after you have styled it .

the spray is to wet or is the one wich leaves the hair hard

The spray in this tutorial is to make the hair damp and slippery for combing. It will not harden hair

Hairspray will harden hair

It helped so much. Just a quick question if you don't mind. How do you store the ponytails?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LolaInProgress In reply to AshenNecromancer [2012-12-31 11:27:03 +0000 UTC]

No problem, Personally I plait them loosely then stick the end of the plaited pony tail into the teeth of the clip, then they go into bags. Some wigs will take on the slightest of waves if you leave them like that for ages but its as easy as getting the hairdryer on them again
