Description [July 6,2011 - First submission was a bit confusing, so I edited the tutorial to make it easier to read. After all, English is read from left to right...]

Please note: The yellow wig not an Arda wig.
The black wig is an Arda Lulu.

Tutorial on wig clips.

Special thanks to my Squirtle plushie, who helped me keep a steady hand while taking the sewing photos.

I hope this helps!

[EDIT 02/03/2013]: Quite a few people have been wondering about how to keep their wigs on if they have very short and slick hair. I've thought of a suggestion, though have never tried it before. If you do decide to try out my idea, please do tell me if it works or doesn't work for you, since we're all learning : [link]

This is GENIUS. I'm always terrified of my wig slipping off, or it's just plain annoying to feel it constantly falling off, but this is the perfect solution! AMAZING tutorial!

Just in the nick of time! My wig for an upcoming cosplay has two pigtails that reach down to my hips, so this will totally help! Thanks so much for posting!

Glad you found the tutorial helpful.  Wigs with ponytails are such high maintenance, whether it's to keep them from tangling or keeping them on.  I hope the clips worked out for you!

This tutorial is wonderful! I've got a question for you though: I have very short hair, and I'm afraid the wig clips won't have much to grab onto. If the clips simply grab the wig cap, won't the wig just tug the cap off as well?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

GingaBishounen In reply to Shaanroo [2013-02-03 21:26:38 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that is an issue that has been mentioned before, and I thought and searched for a very long time for a way to hopefully address it. Mind you, I haven't tried this method myself, but here it is:
You could sew a strip of any of the following three into the hairline part of the wig and then add in wig clips for additional grip:
- Gripper elastic/Elastic grippers - This is apparently the elastic that is used to hem the legs of bike shorts and form fitting running pants to keep them from riding up the legs during excercise.
- Silicone grip elastic - These are used in bra wings (the part of the bra that wraps around the torso), especially in strapless bras to prevent it from slipping down. I see these in the hems of bike shorts too.
- Waist gripper/gripper patches - These are sewn into the waist bands of pants and skirts to prevent a tucked in shirt from pulling out.

This is just a guess based on the descriptions and usages, but I personally think that you would have the best luck with silicone grip elastic, since it is designed to be used against (possibly sweaty) skin, and pretty much everyone sweats while at the con.

I hope this helps answer your question! If you ever try my suggestion(s), please drop by and say if they worked for you! I'm learning too XD

I'm wondering that too. I assume if you attach the wig cap to your hair with bobby pins, then use these wig clips and a few more bobby pins for good measure, that it would stick.

I've never had too much problem with wigs sliding back at conventions, BUT this is the first year I will be going to the Mickey's Halloween party at Disneyland, and I was a bit worried about wearing a wig on rides... (oh the things cosplayers have to worry about! haha). I think this will do the trick!

I also was thinking about sewing in a piece of elastic to go behind my head. I think I will do a trial run and shake my head around to see if anything loosens.

Wig clips work a million times better than bobby pins, and you can't lose them XD I had to come back and visit this because I'm getting a new wig soon so I need to transfer the clips~ It's long though so I MIGHT try to hot glue the clips on. I need to ask if the wig I'm ordering is heat resistant..

Thanks for the tutorial c:

What color is this wig? I'm trying to figure out what color their yellow blonde actually looks like in real life, and this sort of looked like it could be it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GingaBishounen In reply to prissi [2012-03-19 04:11:58 +0000 UTC]

Hi Prissi! Before you are mistaken, this is not a wig from Arda (I should have specified that). While I have yet to see a yellow blonde Arda wig, I do have one of their wigs in light blonde. The light blonde color is very similar to the color of their Wesley wig pictured on the website, so I can only guess that their yellow blonde would be a little more saturated with yellow. I hope this helps you a bit on your decision!

On the other hand, this particular wig is actually a yellow and cream blended wig that I purchased from different wig shop. If you are interested in knowing the name of the seller, just pm me!

I have RIDICULOUSLY short, fine and thin hair...my hair is so smooth and fine that it wouldn't knot if I tried ;___; Do you have any suggestions for clip placement that might help prevent slipping through?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GingaBishounen In reply to spikensalem [2012-03-19 04:27:40 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, this is an interesting question. I'm assuming that your current hairstyle is similar to the one pictured in your deviation 'Red' (but that was uploaded in May 2011. You're very pretty, by the way!). Tell me if it is significantly shorter.

Do you have difficulties keeping these types of hair clips in your hair? [link]
If those types of clips don't fall off, then you most likely will not have a problem with the wig clips sliding off your hair, especially if you're wearing a wig cap underneath. I'd still recommend checking and maybe re-adjusting the wig every 3 or so hours, especially if it is very long or has a heavy ponytail. Anyway, regarding clip placement, I prefer sewing in 3 clips at the front of the wig so that they will grab the hairs at your hairline.

If those types of hair clips do fall off of your hair, I am not sure what to do. If that is the case, let me think on it for a couple of days.

spikensalem In reply to GingaBishounen [2012-03-21 01:52:21 +0000 UTC]

Aww thank you so much! <3 My hair is a tid bit longer than that now--just at my earlobes.

Those clips can stay in my hair for a little while, but if something snags on them or the hair around it, they do slip out. =\ They also slide out in about an hour. I even have the no-slip kind! Those are much better, and only slip out with time, a couple of hours usually.

Most of my problem wigs are very long or very thick. Then again, I don't have many short wigs. xD

try slicking back your hair with gel or pomade until it's stiff, that might add some thickness to keep clips and pins from sliding
